So im following another users guide for installing sl to a dv7t and i got as far as downloading the image, burning to disk and booting up to the installer. I format a 18gb section of my drive with hfs+ journaled and proceed to the installer however it tells me that i need to partition the entire drive as a guid instead of mbr. That sucks, anyway to get around this??? when i tried installing 10.5.2 last week it would let me install that way but just kept getting kernel panics so im trying this sure thing method. Specs on my laptop are as follows

HP DV7T-3300

Intel i7 quad 720qm

Nvidea geforce 320m

6gb ddr3

320gb hdd

/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/Install.framework/Frameworks/OSInstall.framework/Versions/A/

Voilou.

Je pars je suis en retard.

hi you have to customize your dvd to install on mbr harddrives

http://rapidshare.com/files/283416474/OSInstall_SLeo.zip

copy files

OSInstall.mpkg to

/System/Installation/Packages/

OSInstall to

/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/Install.framework/Frameworks/OSInstall.framework/Versions/A/

then it should be possible to install on mbr

i downloaded the file above but when i open the iso with a virtual drive those folders do not show up, ive enabled windows to show all hidden files and folders as well but nothing.??? Any suggestions!

i downloaded HFS explorer which will let me see all these files now but i cant add anything now?

There are three methods you can use:

  1. Install to another disk (say, a USB flash drive or a spare hard disk) using a GUID Partition Table (GPT) and then use Carbon Copy Cloner or some other tool to copy the installation to the target disk. (You may also need to manually install your boot loader on the target disk.)
  2. Use a modified installer, as ph0en1xs suggests. (Sorry, I can't suggest workarounds to the problems you've encountered, since I've never used this method with a retail install.)
  3. Convert your MBR disk to GPT using GPT fdisk, gptgen, or some other tool and then, if you're running Windows, create a hybrid MBR for the Windows partition(s) using GPT fdisk, gptsync, or some other tool.

I've listed these in order of my own personal preference. Although an install-then-copy (option #1) is awkward, it seems to be the least trouble-prone. Both options #1 and #2 produce a pure-MBR configuration, which is preferable to a hybrid MBR for the reasons detailed on my hybrid MBR page, to which I've linked earlier. Nonetheless, in practice a hybrid MBR is often the easiest way to get things working, so hybrid MBRs are fairly common.
