Richdave
I am perplexed here.. I cannot boot my Hack HDD when connected to the SATA port on my MoBo. I have checked that the SATA port works by connecting my Vista HDD to the same port with same cable and it boots just fine. I can however, boot the Hack HDD if I use a USB to SATA adapter. It is a bit slow but I do get the Chameleon screen up and I can boot either my WIN or OSX installs from there... I have booted the OSX DVD and run disk utils/verify on my Hack HDD and it appears OK (when connected via USB) The drive appears to not be recognised by the BIOS when connected via SATA and the POST hangs... Is the drive fritz'd or what?? ARGH! just anothet in a list of problems over the last week.... johnklutsliveson
Have you verified that the BIOS has Sata configured as AHCI? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/214212-can-boot-hdd-via-usb-but-not-sata/#findComment-1438999 Share on other sites
Richdave
Have you verified that the BIOS has Sata configured as AHCI? thanks for the reply. Yes that was the first thing I did. I have also cleared cmos and reloaded defaults, and then reloaded from stored known good profile in BIOS. The POST seems to hang on detecting the drive..... jasjeet
From the USB, make sure the kexts in the "Extra" folder are also copied on to the the drive. Richdave
From the USB, make sure the kexts in the "Extra" folder are also copied on to the the drive. My drive has 4 partitions, EFI, Chameleon, Snow, and Backup. All the necessary files/folders are on the Chameleon partition. All required Kext are in the/extra folder too. The drive boots and runs SL just fine IF I use use a SATA/USB adaptor. It just wont allow the PC to POST if connected to SATA port at boot. I have also connected the drive to eSATA port after booting the install DVD and run disk utils. The drive appears OK according to Disk Utils Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/214212-can-boot-hdd-via-usb-but-not-sata/#findComment-1440004 Share on other sites
Richdave
I have reflashed the BIOS and cleared CMOS by removing battery and shorting the CLR pins to be certain. This has not helped... I am able to use the SATA port with other drives OK too. This is what I see when I boot with the problematic HDD on SATA port 3. If I put it on any other port (I have 8) it halts at that point... Richdave
So I managed to resolve the problem Not entirely sure what did it... I fired Gparted Live CD and poked around but did not make any changes nor find any obvious issues. I then booted Windows and ran Paragon partition Manager 10 and looked ate the EFI partition and then ran a surface test and checked file integrity. neither posted any errors. I then shut down, connected via SATA and rebooted system, to my amazement it passed POST and booted Chameleon and I was able to boot my SL Was it something that Paragon did it?? Or was it just a lucky reboot that resolved the issue?? Or perhaps I just managed to hold my tongue in the right place.. Kinda bummed out that I don't KNOW what caused/fixed my issue but I AM happy it is resolved Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/214212-can-boot-hdd-via-usb-but-not-sata/#findComment-1440153 Share on other sites
