I can't seem to figure out why SnowOSXv3.6 won't even boot for me, not even in a virtual machine. all it does is restart over and over so fast you don't get chance to enter any boot flags (I doubt it would help if you could) There are no error messages to go from.

My computer has a core i5 750 2.66GHz CPU.

4GB RAM

640GB WD Caviar Blue SATA 3GB/s

NVidia GeForce GT220 (I think this is supported by OS X with EFI strings but not sure)

Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller

heres the info at HP's site: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/product...loc:0&cc=uk

Logical user gave a few details in the other topic:

your motherboard is manufactured by MSI, the MSI MS-7613

its onboard audio is the Realtek ALC888S which is very similar to those used on most of the hacks here, so should be compatible with the right config & pin layout.

its networking is also Realtek, the RTL8111DL, again very similar, likely easy to get working

no information is given about the firewire chipset used on the board, but odds are decent that it'll work without any setup.

Assuming the rather limited HP BIOS gives you enough options to make the needed changes for OSX I see no reason why you couldn't get a vanilla 10.6.2 install going on that hardware. Even the video card is not impossible, several people have reported success with EFI strings

you may need to craft your own DSDT file however, unless you can find one for that model, or a similar MSI board that'll work in a pinch (iffy)

The BIOS of the P6235uk gives enough options that would allow a snow leo install but the DVD is refusing to boot even with the correct options set.

Should I give up with the SnowOSXv3.6 distro or is there something else I can try to get this to boot?

(My original topic was in 'Buying Thoughts, Reviews, and Recommendations' but it keept being pushed to the bottom there and being missed.

Now i dont know what version that distro is but i can say this... your reboot loop is well known for unsupported cpu... and your cpu is NOT supported before 10.6.2...

But look at Empire EFI (Find it on google with the search string Empire EFI) there is a i5 version of that that works with a retail snow leopard dvd... So my advice is this... Breake the distro dvd, download the small iso that Empire EFI is, and use the 29$ on a retail snow leopard dvd.

Thank you Mushishi. I had just tried Empire EFI for the i5 and tried it with this DVD, but it just gave me a huge list of things it couldn't find in the SnowOSXv3.6 DVD and then ended.

AFAIK this DVD is 10.6.2 but it may not be. It does look like I will be having to get hold of the retail DVD.

Downloading retail would not be helpful as it's Huge and requires a double layer DVD (which I have none, only single layer blank DVD's.) so definitely will have to get somebody to buy it for me, But hey my 18th Birthday is on the 23rd of this month so who knows lol.

OK, I downloaded Hazards OS X 10.6 and I'm happy to say, after a lot of trial and error, I have OS X 10.6.2 working on my computer really well apart from the odd issue.

I was so happy to see the OS X Desktop with translucent menu bar straight away - So I presume my GT220 is working.

Now, can anybody give me any tips on getting Ethernet to work and Audio to work.

Audio Realtek ALC888S - FIXED! -_- - see below

Ethernet: RTL8111DL - FIXED! :)

Thank you so much For everything so far!

Other Issues:

Computer boots to a blue screen (you can tell OS X is running in the background)... my solution has been to press the power button, wait for sleep, then wake it again and everything works fine - UNRESOLVED.

Quicktime and iTunes cause the mouse to become laggy rendering them unusable. I think there is a fix for this - FIXED! :) .

I installed the Apple HDA.kext from http://www.kexts.com/view/137-alc888_p35-ds3l.html with kext helper, I got a kernal panic almost immediately, so I turned off the PC, started it again, it took longer to do the 'scroll' but Amazingly it booted and I now have Full Audio! it even looks like Line-in will work as it's not grayed out in sysprefs, I can't try it as I have no mic. (I did not have to install anything other than the hacked AppleHDA.kext the other kext in that download obviously isn't needed - Audio

So only one problem now and that's the blue screen when mac os x loads... I have to put it to sleep every time, then wake it again for the desktop to show up.

Now that I have mac os x installed and working, I can say this topic can draw to a close, I can make a new topic in post installation as the graphics issue isn't a biggie and not really a problem for here.
