Hello!

After reading several posts on the topic, I have downloaded the AR5001.kext which supposedly is the correct one, but didn't manage yet to make the card work. In my first attempt, Snow Leopard recognised the presence of a wireless card (icon appeared) but wouldn't switch on the airport! The trick within Network in System Preferences (try switching it on from there and close System Preferences) doesn't work in my case, no matter how many times I tried. I also tried enabling it using the switch on the side of the netbook, nothing happens, as if the switch is broken! In one of my later attempts, the card is not recognised (right clicking the icon reports that no airport card is installed), although the icon is still there.

So can you please guide my step-by-step how to install the kext, modify it correctly with my device ID (168c:001c) and enable it? Assume I have both the archive AR5001X.tar.gz and the extracted AR5001x.kext on the desktop. I go to Terminal, I type sudo -s to gain administrator priviledges, then what?

I have dual boot with Windows 7, and this card is reported as Atheros AR5007EG in Window 7. No, the relevant kext didn't make it work either. It seems I have to put my own device ID somewhere. The utility relevant utility Hardware Info reports it as Atheros AR5001X wireless with device ID 168c:001c. I also tried Orange's drivers but these reported that I have an Intel CPU and they work only with PowerPC.

If that helps, I also have kext utility. Thank you in advance.

I also have this weird wireless card on a Toshiba Satellite L305D, I have also tried MANY kexts and still haven't been able to get it working. Under OS X it detects it as an AR5001 (without the X) with dev id 168c:001c as well. Anybody know what's the trick to get these @#(*$!_ cards to work?

The laptop has a sticker with pa3613u-1mpc I searched and couldn't find anything for OS X.
