Hi Macfans,

I hope some of you can help me.

First, my english is not so good, i do my best.

I have installed SL, it works perfect. i use cameleon to boot into SL.

It is installed on a 500gb sata drive. 1 partition.

I have a 200gb sata drive, i would like to install win7 on it.

What can i do now? can i disconnect the 500gb sl drive and connect the 200gb drive and install win7.. and after the instal connect the 500gb back? will win7 appear in cameleon then?

I do not want to mess up my 500GB SL drive, it works perfect now.

I hope someone could help me.

Greets rob

In theory, yes, your approach will work. In fact, a two-drive install is the safest and easiest way to do it. If Windows doesn't appear in Chameleon's menu when you restart everything, try swapping the drive order in the BIOS, and if that doesn't work, check back here with details of what's happening (error messages, configuration details, etc.).

i have a question:

i installed 10.6.2 on one hard drive, and on a 2nd, i have three partitions: one 7gb kalyway, one 100gb FATmsdos partition, and one 600+gb apple partition.

when i boot with the windows 7 starter dvd that i have, i can only see the 2nd hard drive as one huge 'unallocated space' partition and a tiny 132mb one.

i tried going to the repair option at the beginning of the win7 installation process, but it gives me this msg that says something like, "This version of System Recovery Options is not compatible with the version of Windows you are trying to repair"

does anyone have any ideas of how to get win7 installed cleanly on that 100gb partition?

can i backup that hard drive, reformat it through win7 installation, and repartition it so that it looked just like i have it set up now?

thanks!

rob mojoor try EasyBCD in Windows 7

1 disconnect mac drive

2 install win 7

3 connect mac drive

4 set boot priority in bios (win drive first)

5 install EasyBCD and add mac to windows bootloader

I also have 2 drives MAC and Windows 7

i use EasyBCD and multiboot working

p.s. sorry for my english

Chances are you've got a hybrid MBR on that second disk. OS X favors the GPT side of such disks, but Windows favors the MBR side. My guess is that your single MBR-side partition actually corresponds to an EFI System partition that OS X's Disk Utility isn't showing you, but that does exist, on the GPT side. If nothing is booting from the disk, then your best bet may be to convert it from GPT to MBR form. In fact, that might be best even if you are booting an OS from that disk, although this runs the risk of rendering the OS(es) that currently boot from the disk unbootable. OTOH, keeping the current GPT setup and creating a fresh hybrid MBR that houses the FAT partition, at the least, should also work and will pose less danger of disrupting the bootability of anything on that disk. The drawback is that you'll then have a hybrid MBR, which is dangerous and (as you've discovered) trouble-prone. My GPT fdisk program can create a new hybrid MBR or convert to a straight MBR format. (The latter is practical only if you've got four or fewer partitions, which you do.) The gptsync utility (sorry, I've no URL handy) will also create a hybrid MBR. Under some circumstances, so will Disk Utility, but I don't know under precisely what circumstances it does so, except when you create a fresh partition table that includes a FAT partition.

I finally got time to install Win7.

I disconnected the SL drive and installed Win7 on an empty 200gb sata disk.

When Win7 finished i have run win update en restarted a few times. no problems!

When i connect the SL drive with cameleon, it works good, i get the cameleon boot menu with win7 & SL..

Booting OSX works fine, but if I choose the Win7 drive in Chameleon I get "BOOTMGR is missing".

Anyone a tutorial to fix this without destroying my SL disk?
