pogox
I've installed the OSX 1.4.6 jas release on my laptop. Installation all smooth with all options installed. But now when i try to boot up, it goes through all the loading stuff, and bam black screen of death. I can't even see the osx logo or that circle thing. While in BSOD the laptop will eventually reboot itself. Plz Help... belgrano
It's not a BSoD, it's a kernel panic (probably). Next time you boot type "-v" on boot prompt and write down the error messages. pogox
I did the -v and tried to find errors. all it kept saying was loading hfs+ loading drivers before it hit the black screen of death. My laptop is a Gateway Centrino 6518GZ Pentium Mobile 1.7 GHz Processor, 512 MB RAM. JHO
Did you make sure that your OS X partition is active and primary rather than logical, the same thing happened to me. pogox
You mean the b0 error? i had that problem earlier, but fixed it with fdisk. This is driving me crazy, did the -v thingy with pause/break to throughly check to see if theres any errors nothing before its blanks out at black screen. Rammjet
I've installed the OSX 1.4.6 jas release on my laptop. Installation all smooth with all options installed. By "all" options installed, do you mean that you selected both SSE2 and SSE3? If so, you can't do that. Select only the option which applies to your computer. onyx_re2
I am having a similar issue with installation of 10.4.4 or higher on my system. I boot from the DVD (any version mentioned above) and it ultimately craps out with a black screen and a blinking cursor on the upper left of the screen (can't even begin the installation process). I tried pulling a hard disk from a functional machine running a patched 10.4.6 and it boots to the same black screen/flashing cursor! The system run 10.4.3 just fine however. It's a Biostar 915G mobo with 2gb ram, P4 630 (3.0ghz), SONY DVD-RW, on-board 915 video and 250gb SATA drive. Any thoughts? joneSi
Ugh...why did I reinstall...it was starting to go soooo well. I am having a problem that I searched for first, and this is the only place i came up with anything that resembled my answer, but I suspect I know what it is already. I reinstalled and I checked the box for X11/tools(?) for my Athlon 64 system with a 10.4.6 universal install. See sig for system. And now unless I boot in safe mode, I get no video...well save for a cursor on a black screen. On my old install I had full QE/CI support ootb (but the resolution needs tweaking for my 19 wide monitor). Any thought on this? safe mode boots great. but thats not usable long term... joneSi Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/20976-help-boot-up-problems-osx/#findComment-161048 Share on other sites
Rammjet
I reinstalled and I checked the box for X11/tools(?) for my Athlon 64 system with a 10.4.6 universal install. What else did you check? There should be some AMD packages in the Hacks (or some similar name) package. You have to click the little arrow in front of the various categories to reveal the packages within. joneSi
Yeah, I viewed all of the packages and installed appropriate AMD Base and AMD sse3 packages. This worked before which is why I am so confused about it, but before that no X11. Also, I woke up in the middle of the night because I realized that I didn't post up the video card that I have. Its pretty simple, really, its an Asus X300 PCI-e w/128mb. Like I said, it all worked out of the box before. BTW that card has the same device ID as the ATIRadeon9700.kext (checked in XP and OS X) and -was- QE/CI enabled before I formatted. The other thing I thought of is that I am using a 1400x900 wide monitor. ...wait a sec...Hmmmm....I installed on a computer before that was 1024x768 or whatever. Then moved to the monitor I have it on now...OS X have troubs with these? My intel board setup seems to work great with it...in full 1400x900 Maybe I ought to go through it and try it again w/a format and reinstall (or apply semjaza patches again). Lastly, I may need to set the graphics mode to 800x600 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/20976-help-boot-up-problems-osx/#findComment-161261 Share on other sites
