Silencers
I have a relatively old ThinkPad T60p with Core2Duo 2.3GHz (T7600), 4GB of RAM, ATI FireGL V5200 video (1400x1050), but it looks to be handling SnowLeo very well except for a few problems that I would like to sort out, starting with not working Sleep. Snow Leopard Installation I've followed great guide from bozilla and installed 10.6 on to a separate USB drive and then upgraded it to 10.6.2 almost straight away with very few problems. At least it looked like that at the beginning. I've installed a bunch of kexts to /Extra/Extensions and made some minor changes in /System/Library/Extensions. I've also ran DSDT Patcher GUI which made ~2600 adjustments, but I'm not sure what they are, since DSDT patching is the completely dark territory for me. I have working battery icon with VoodooBattery, wireless works OOB (Atheros), video works in 32-bit with ATIinject with full QE/CI support, Bluetooth works OOB if it is switched on during boot, audio works with VoodooHDA. SpeedStep seems to be working (according to cpu-x) with a number of methods, currently it's VoodooPowerMini. But there is a number of problems. Sleep The very first and the most annoying problem that I would like to fix is Sleep. The computer goes to sleep successfully by any method (Sleep from menu, keyboard shortcuts, close lid). Hard disk stops spinning, fan stops spinning, screen shuts off and the little sleep icon (moon) on ThinkPads lights up. Looks very good, but... But when I try to wake the computer up, hard drive and fan both start spinning, but the screen remains dark, the sleep icon never shuts off. I've messed with number of kexts and tried all kinds of advice, but none of them worked. One similar to mine case was about adding EhternetBuiltIn to com.apple.Boot.plist, but it did nothing for me, and ethernet card doesn't show as built-in in profiler. I've seen posts around about people who have sleep working on T60p or similar laptops, so I suppose there is a solution. Can you please help me to find one? Bluetooth I don't use it much, so it's not a very big problem for me, but I've noticed, that it's only working if I boot SL with Bluetooth switched on. If I boot with bluetooth off, I can't turn it on anymore. Maybe it's a small fix, so I would appreciate any help here. Screen remains black after boot from time to time I had the same problem in 10.5.6 with using ATIinject. Occasionally, when booting screen remains black. In 10.5.6 I could close lid to go to sleep, and then when it woke up, screen turned on just fine. In SL it doesn't work like that, I have to hard reboot, which is annoying. Any chance of fixing this? Screen Backlight Brightness Control I had the same problem in 10.5.6 with ATIinject, and I gave up back then, but would like to try again with SL. After I booted to SL, if I use Fn+Home/End keys to adjust screen brightness, the left side of the screen shuts off completely, and controls only work for the right side. Without ATIinject I can use vanilla ATIRadeonX1000.kext by adding my device id there, and it doesn't have brightness control issues, but it produces terrible mouse tearing. I've moved ATIinject values to EFI string in com.apple.Boot.plist and removed the kext, but the problem stayed. I've also tried to add a bunch of additional AAPL values (like HasLid, etc.) to plist but without any luck. Is it possible to fix this at all or maybe to fix mouse tearing with vanilla X1000 kext? x64 Mode After looking for latest versions of all kexts provided in bozilla's guide, x64 mode works the same as x86 with the exception for video. ATY_Wormy driver that is used by ATIinject is only 32-bit. Is there a chance or a way to make it work in x64? /Extra/Extensions Content I've used a number of guides later on, and here's what I have in my /E/C. Some kexts I'm not sure about. AHCIPortInjector.kext AppleACPIPS2Nub.kext AppleIntelPIIXATA.kext ApplePS2Controller.kext AppleRTC.kext.noload - it was in the original guide, but I removed it after reading some additional material. Do I need this? ATAPortInjector.kext Disabler.kext.noload - again, it was in the original guide, but everything works fine without it. fakesmc.kext - latest version 2.5 FramebufferDisabler.kext.noload - tried to use it for video, didn't do much. IOAHCIBlockStorageInjector.kext NullCPUPowerManagement.kext - everything works even without it. Do I need it? OpenHaltRestart.kext PlatformUUID.kext SleepEnabler.kext - version for 10.6.2, but doesn't seem to solve my sleep problem. VoodooBattery.kext - latest version. VoodooHDA.kext - latest version. VoodooPowerMini.kext - originally the guide had older VoodooPower.kext here, but I upgraded for x64 support. VoodooPowerAcpi.kext - not sure what's this for, do I need it? /System/Library/Extension Modifications AppleSMBIOS.kext - using AnV-AppleSMBIOS-38.kext as per original guide. Is there anything better I should be using? AppleHDA.kext.noload - apparently to enable VoodooHDA. Any way to use vanilla instead of Voodoo? AppleLPC.kext.noload - the same was in 10.5.6 to enable computer to go to sleep. ATINDRV.kext - ATY_Wormy driver for ATIinject is there. ClamshellDisplay.kext - to enable going to sleep by closing lid. IOATAFamily.kext - to prevent Kernel Panic from something. Silencers
Brightness Control Update I've changed settings in BIOS and switched brightness seetings from High to Normal, and then patched DSDT to add APP0002 node. Now I have brightness slider in Disaply settings, and brightness is adjusted very fine in the range of 0.8-1.0. If I move slider further down the left side of the screen goes dark very fast. Not really a full solution, but at least moving somewhere. I have a feeling, that further patching of DSDT should solve this completely, but don't really now where to look. sebinouse
For sleep you can have a look here ... seems to work in 32 bit ... Silencers
For sleep you can have a look here ... seems to work in 32 bit ... Thanks, I was investigating more, and I've tried 100% vanilla CPU power management (using vanilla speedstep now). Funny thing, when I reinstalled 10.6.2 I couldn't even go to sleep anymore in both 32-bit and x64. Finally I found out that ability to go to sleep for me was dependant on ATINDRV.kext which only worked in 32-bit and it's the only ATI driver I've tried that could shut the screen off, and that what prevented me from sleeping. But in the end result is the same - no Wake. Still can't find a solution which would T60p from sleep. Silencers
I've spent a lot of time working on DSDT patching, read a number of guides and I've compiled all information into large comprehensive guide on the subject: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=211705 Sleep still won't work, but I have now 100% vanilla /System/Library/Extensions and very limited number of custom kexts. Silencers
Almost randomly stumbled upon Sleep solution! Will post here, it might save someone a lot of time. The same setup as described in the DSDT guide linked above, vanilla /S/L/E. 1) Remove or disable VoodooHDA.kext 2) Regenerate caches with pfix 3) Remove HDEF fix from DSDT - basically, allow HDEF device to be found by AppleHDA.kext. It won't work, but it will try. 4) Reboot. That's it! I've managed to wake up successfully without any problems! I really don't understand how AppleHDA.kext loading affects sleep, but still. Prerequisites: You need to be able to go to Sleep properly, and this is ONLY possible (on T60p) using ATINDRV framebuffer. Any other video solution cannot shut the screen off, thus stopping OSX from sleeping. Intermediate quick and dirty solution to get both Sleep and Sound working - patched AppleAzaliaAudio.kext patched for AD1981HD: http://www.mediafire.com/file/yyz22mlzljz/...a.fixad1981.zip I don't remember where I've got it, but it works with T60p (and I suppose with almost any 60-series ThinkPad). You need to disable HDEF device in DSDT and then install this kext in /E/E and regenerate caches. Sleep works, sound works, but no microphone. At some point when testing initially I've noticed minor audio glitches, but currently can't hear anything (listening to iTunes). 00diabolic
Guys I have a Lenovo 3000 N200 and followed iloveant topic here and found many of the things he was doing was working for me on my N200. His VoodooHDA works perfect for me. Unlike you guys I have x3100 graphics and I'm not sure if thats why I cant get sleep to work but everything I have tried has failed. My system will go to sleep if the lid is closed or I tell it to go to sleep but it will never wake up. I have to restart then. Any help you can lend me would be great.
