Ok so before we start, I have read the stickies, searched google, and read plenty of SIMILAR issues but none that are spot on (obviously, they rarely are) bare with me here because, while I can figure most things out on the computer, I am not nearly as good as most of you, anyway, here we go.

I have a Gateway NV5302u Laptop: (basic specs then hardware list)

320 GB SATA HDD

4 GB RAM

ATI HD 3200 Graphics

Dual Boot with Windows 7 Home Premium

I went into the hardware list app that's on the iAtkos v7 disk and here is the list of everything it found:

AMD RS780 PCIE port 0

Broadcom Corporation NetLink BCM5784M Gigabit Ethernet PCIe

AMD PCIe port 2

Atheros Communication Inc. AR928X Wireless Adapter PCI-Express

AMD PCIe Port 3

ATI Tech SB700/SB800 USB OCHI0 Controller (listed twice)

ATI Tech SB700 USB OCHI1 Controller (listed twice)

ATI SB700/SB800 USB EHCI Controller (listed twice)

ATI SB700/SB800 SATA Controller AHCi mode

ATI SBx00 SMBus controller

ATI SB700/SB800 LPC host controller

ATI SBx00 PCI to PCI bridge

ATI SBx00 Azalia (Intel HDA)

ATI RS780M/RS780MN Radeon HD 3200 Graphics

ATI RS780 Azalia Controller

AMD Mobile K10 Link Control

AMD Mobile K10 Miscellaneous Control

AMD Mobile K10 DRAM Controller

AMD Family llh Address Map

AMD Mobile K10 HyperTransport Configuration

AMD RS780 Host Bridge

Now, the problem, I am, as with most people, getting stuck at the Apple logo screen, no spinning load wheel or anything, I tried booting with -v and I got no errors, my DVD drive is pretty loud so I have't tried -x yet (since I'm in class)

Can I get a few suggestions of things to try before I uninstall and try again with different settings?

Thank You for your patience and again, I read most threads but if you guys find one that you think will help me then go ahead and point me in the right direction. I am greatly sorry if this issue has been addressed. Thank you again for any help!

I got something different, I don't know if it will help but when I change the boot order from DVD drive to HDD the resolution changes. When booting from the HDD the resolution is higher and clearer but still nothing.

So you've installed and are having trouble booting the OS?

You should be booting from the HD if the installation went smoothly. You verbose boot with -v, and you see all the text as the system loads and then it freezes or what?

Alright well I tried -v when booting from the hdd and not the DVD and it went screaming through a list of things I couldn't read and the screen went black. Now I'm not positive but I'm starting to feel that it's a BIOS problem, someone please help, thank you

Ok so I reinstalled and tried -v again and it froze up with a message saying BSM auditing present. The lines that appear important read:

SMBIOS: EF1 Bootloader

mbinit: done

Security auditing service present

BSM auditing present

After this I went into my setup and changed the SATA mode from AHCI mode to IDE Mode. I tried running -v again and everything was the same up until it got to BSM auditing present, after that it gave me some refer to slice thing..

Which mode should I stay in?

Tomorrow when I have time finally I will list everything I select from the customize options and hopefully someone can tell me what seems to be an issue, I realize now that I should be taking notes so I know what to try next. Anyway, I hve this thing where I can't give up very easily so as long as I make it to the desktop I'll be satisfied and if graphics issues arise I'll get rid of it. Anyway thanks for the help and patience again, please come back and help tomorrow.

Edit: when I boot from the hdd with -v, -x, or -f it goes to the apple logo screen and locks up, should I try another distro or what??

Ok so right now I am installing iDeneb v1.6 10.5.8 Lite

Here are the patches, kernels, etc I am using

- iDeneb Main System (obviously)

- Chameleon V2

- 9.5.0 Voodoo Kernel

- Apple Decrypt

- Disabler

- DSDT Patcher

- Time Machine Fix

- Open Halt Restart

- Voodoo PS/2 Controller

- AboutThisMacFix

- SystemProfilerFix

- Voodoo HDA

- Chipset AHCI SATA/IDE

- SMBIOS Enabler

- Apple SMBIOS MacBook

- Broadcom WiFi

- ATY_Init

Any issues that are obvious?

Now, this is my current laptop but there is a Dell XPS m1330 running around in my family that used to be mine that I can probably trade this one for. Would that be a better idea than messing with this Gateway? I noticed that a lot of Dells are supported where Gateways aren't or is that just because less people own Gateway laptops to test this on?

what processor do you have? that is pretty important when selecting a kernel

your chipset, kernel and SMBIOS are often the most critical parts. voodoo kernel is pretty universal though so i dont think thats the problem. have you tried ICHX option in chipset? try another SMBIOS option

Intels often work better than AMD processors, if the Dell is an intel and your gateway is AMD i'd trade off for the dell if i were you

Holy Sh*t! I just peed a little, those settings got me in.

I have never felt so accomplished.

I'll check the network, video card, etc and get back to you with the full results!

I'm on the desktop now with no issues, I booted with -v and showed no errrors =]

alright so I'm having an issue setting up the network. It's not letting me change the setting from telephone to wireless, this is so basicly noobish, sorry, but since I'm already here please help...

Nice.

I would still trade for the Dell machine though, if you really want Leopard. Like muchlife said, Intel makes things simpler than AMD. Also, the video card on that machine (nVidia 8400M GS) has acceleration while the one on the Gateway does not.

Actually, I have the 1st gen, base model m1330 with intel integrated graphics... That's why I went for the gateway originally. I honestly have no idea how to set up the networking though... other than that it's running beautifully

I'm not sure what you mean, won't let me switch from telephone to wireless. I had to replace my Intel 3945 card with a Dell 1390 wireless card...instructions were on here somewhere and you just have to do trial and error.

Search the forums and hopefully one method will work for you.

I'm not sure what point you are at since the machine isn't in front of me, you need to do more searching and reading. Set up internet in System Preferences>Network.

Look into adding your wireless card device ID into IO80211Family.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AirPortAtheros.kext/Contents/Info.plist . This probably means nothing to you, look for a guide on this site. The project's been around for a while and there's tons of info for lots of setups.

Good luck.

After all that's happened with the ateway I decided to take a shot with iAtkos on the m1330, I got to the screen where I would potentially start putting in info such as language country time settings and all that before it does the first desktop load, at this point the screen turns black BUT I'm getting clicking sounds as if the menu is there I just can't see it. There is also music playing in the background?? Any ideas what this could be??

Another note, I tried IDeneb and that didn't work, I get the eternal spinning load screen, I tried booting it with -v -s to no avail, I would like to use iDeneb and I know for a fact that iPC isn't working..

hey guys. i was installing iatkos v7, and everything was going very smoothly until i rebooted after the install. i got to the point where theres the silver/white looking apple and the spinning circle under it, then from there, my screen goes completely black! Any ideas anyone? I tried googling this problem and cant seem to find anyone else facing the same problem. Thanks!

It's potentially a graphics problem. Try booting with -v or -v -x and see if the same problem occurs. If you're using Chameleon, you can press tab, or just start typing for the boot prompt.

ok now I'm having a major issue, I am trying to revert the Dell to Windows 7 but when I put the disk in and boot from disk drive it doesn't show up. Am I SOL? any help ASAP would be appreciated greatly, thank you

The Dell machine:

You made a new partition, formatted it and installed Leopard. Now you want to boot into Windows? Or reclaim the partition you made? You probably aren't SOL, just be careful if you don't know what you're doing.

You need to be more clear in your posts. When you say "when I put the disk in and boot from disk drive it doesn't show up", what disk are you talking about, and what doesn't show up?

You are more likely to get help if you do some background reading yourself and post your specs.

This is on a machine (Gateway) that was working earlier?

You shouldn't have to have the iAtkos DVD (I assume this is what you mean by "OSX disk") to boot to the OS X partition of the hard drive. If this is indeed the previously-working system and you haven't tinkered with it, try booting with -f flag. If that doesn't work, boot the DVD like you're doing a fresh install and repair permissions on the partition from Disk Utilities.

I hate to keep switching stuff up on you guys but what I'm doing right now is putting the 4GB of RAM and the 320GB HDD from the gateway to the Dell, then I'm going to restore with windows (so I can make sure everything cecks out) then I will go back to ideneb and try the installation as well as booting with those options. How will I know if it's graphics?

What you said earlier (you could hear music) sounds like a typical graphics problem. If you have an external monitor around, you can try plugging it in. That was a workaround people used to have to do during the install on some machines (now I think with EFI strings it can be avoided).
