solarsystem
I think my problem is SATA related. I have a vaio RA840G computer and after trying all the suggestions about making the partition fat 32, logical, etc (using partition magic,) the installation still wouldn't read the partition when I got to the part to select where to install it to. The disk utility program would only see my DVD drive. So, I just found out that my computer uses SATA for the drives and I've read that this can be a problem. I have no idea where to go from this point. I read that I might be able to change my SATA drives to read as ATA in my bios but that doesn't work. I've looked all over and there's no option to change my drive from SATA to ATA. I've also tried installing with VMware but I'm not having any luck there. I install the system just fine but then once it reboots, I keep getting a boot error. If it was up to me, I would like to have a non-virtual installation of os x if possible. So, does anyone know what to do? I'm using the h-t1046 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/20865-installation-wont-detect-drive-1046-may-be-sata-related/ Share on other sites
solarsystem
Okay, I was able to get it to load on vmware by loading the hiren's boot cd and going into boot magic. The OS runs a little slow though, I'm sure because of the fact it's running over vmware Here's some more of my specs. I would really like to get this thing running by its self. I have a Pentium D 2.80 GHz 1 gig ram I have 100 gigs out of my 250 gig drive in a fat 32 partition, logical, for os X My video card is a Radeon 256 x800. Will OS x be able to see that? As for audio, it's realtek thanks for any help Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/20865-installation-wont-detect-drive-1046-may-be-sata-related/#findComment-138147 Share on other sites
solarsystem
Just wanted to also note that if worse comes to worse and I can't use the drive, I have a seagate usb 2.0 130 gig drive and a 300 gig drive in a firewire case. Would anyone know if I can boot it off of one of those? If so, could anyone share how? I've never booted off an external drive before. jbjohn942
Hey, i know what you're going through. I'm pretty much stuck at the same point as you. I got the os installed but when i try to run it natively, it won't boot (waiting for boot device error / grey screen). I've got a sony vaio with the i945 chipset and sata. I'm pretty sure OS X just needs the sata drivers for the intel sata/raid chip (ich7). I found this post which talks about it, but i'm not able to figure out what to do with it. Maybe you or someone else can make something of it, or at least give you one more thing to go off of. Let me know if you figure anything out. bwhsh8r
The other post is showing you how he added a slave sata drive because he mentions darwine and terminal in his instructions and you cant use those unless you allready have osx or osx86 installed somewhere... but I am having the same problem as you guys .... i hope someone will figure out a solution soon.... thanks bwhsh8r Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/20865-installation-wont-detect-drive-1046-may-be-sata-related/#findComment-139850 Share on other sites
tripleboot
I tried installing Jas OSx86 10.4.6 several times and I just kept getting reboots after the matrix code screen when trying to boot into OS X. I finally tried Myz OSx86 10.4.4 and it installed fine last night for the first time in a month of trying to get OSx86 installed on my rig. There is something with 10.4.6 that isn't recognizing SATA. jameseb
Ive had problems with sata in the past specifically with the VIA drivers! What mobo's you using? and are you select customize and adding the various patches (for instanse Via Sata support) in during the installation. The only way i could get that to work was to install osx on PATA then select the Via Sata drivers in Install so i could see my Sata drives in osx after it booted. In the end i choose new mobo from asus based on the intel 945 chipset which is fantastic and had sata recongised from the get go... Hope that helps Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/20865-installation-wont-detect-drive-1046-may-be-sata-related/#findComment-139969 Share on other sites
