Hi all,

I just got a netbook (S10 4333-36U Lenovo) as a gift and I'm modding it already. I have XP, OSX 10.6.2, Linux on it which installed fine.

I blindly purchased a Broadcom Crystal HD Decoder (BCM970012) MiniPci-e from ebay and it is already on its way (I have not received it yet). I'm going to be using this chip for enhance HD playback on my netbook. I had the guts to do this because my S10 has 2 mini pci-e slots, one for the WLAN wifi and an empty mini pci-e slot with a sim card right by its side (WWAN minipcie). To my surprise that the 2nd mini pci-e slot is not a "true" x1 express slot. It only uses an USB interface but has the form factor of minipci-e. Unfortunately, the Broadcom chip uses a real minipcie to work properly (according to its data sheet). Now, the only way I could think of (as other users also suggested) is to buy a WLAN USB interface minipcie and use that to the empty slot and I should remove my original WIFI from the true minipcie slot and put the Broadcom there.

I dont want to use a wireless usb dongle.

Does anyone know any USB-interfaced-minipcie that fully works in OSX?

These are examples of the cards that I'm talking about .. these use ralink and realtek chips so I guess it is supported but with a third party wireless utility. I'm hoping for native OSX support.

Uses Ralink RT2571W

or

Uses RTL8187L chipset

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

Thank you.

For the Ralink RT2571WF wireless card you can use the Ralink AirPort utility posted here: http://www.projectosx.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=390 looks very close to AirPort menu, I tested this app with an TP-Link USB TL-WN321G Adapter (Chipset Ralink RT2571WF) in Snow Leopard and works fine.

TP-Link USB TL-WN321G:

And I do not know if there is some USB/mini-pcie card with native support for OS X.

Thanks for the info. I think I'll risk it. I really hope it works even using a third party wireless utility. Everything is still on its way and the hardest part is waiting.

Thanks again.
