Azxster
I just installed 10.4.6 I used GParted to set the partion to Boot I reboot... it loads Darwin/X86, then shows a grey screen with a grey Apple logo. The cursor below it is rotating and then I get a stop-like icon in the center. What is wrong? Did I not set the partition boot flag properly? I get a Still waiting for root device. davegarbs
I know this doesn't help much but this error occurs for a variety of reasons. Try searching the forums as there are multiple threads with people having this exact same problem. Good luck Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/20592-help-new-installation-but-wont-boot-into-mac-i-get-an-apple-icon/#findComment-136036 Share on other sites
belgrano
The OS X partition must be primary and active. There should be no logical partitions in front of that partition. Azxster
I'm using the HotISO if that helps. I tried a different machine, but I get a "you must restart" error. It is having a CPU panic error. Will try Goatsecx and JAS. Legacy & other junk are disabled. I am using a Toshiba M300, M3, and a M500. When I use gparted live, and I set the partition to boot. Does this make it bootable and active/primary? jake5253
Try using Hiren's BootCD (available via torrents). Mount it and run from windows or waste a disc (although it could be useful later so its not really a waste) DIRECTIONS: In the menu, choose "MBR Tools", then select "more...", then use "Boot Magic 8" to select ID you want as the master. (that's directions for version 8.2 or Hiren's, the others are similar I'm sure. _M3
Your boot config is OK, you are getting a kernel panic. When Mac OS boot, press fast F8 it will take you to a menu, where you can enter boot options, use -v, that will make the system boot without the apple logo, sou you can see the system mesages and know whats is going on.
