TokinDerrick
alright, so I've installed the bootcamp assistant on my Compaq Presario SR1151NX and then when I go to actually turn it on to burn a copy of the windows drivers, it tells me the firmware needs updating. now, I know there aren't firmware updates for a non apple macintosh. so how do I go about getting this to work. any help is appreciated. Colonel
Boot Camp doesn't work on a Hackintosh because they don't use EFI. The MacEFIx86 Project is working on this here Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/20579-boot-camp-on-hackintosh/#findComment-135847 Share on other sites
sigxcpu
why on earth will you need bc on a hackintosh? boot camp is just a file copy software (apple drivers for windows) and a hot partitioning software for HFS. that's all. the firmware update just allows other OSes to see the Apple EFI computer just like any other computer (BIOS based) in order to be able to boot (which your hackintosh does starting its first day of life). Takuro
Easier to do what? Install windows on a machine that's practically built for windows? I admit though. Having a nice OS chooser Boot=-camp style would be cooler than simply choosing and OS from window's boot.ini. TokinDerrick
yeah, pretty much....{censored}. sorry, I thought boot camp worked for all apple machines, i hadnt' really read anything saying otherwise. so I thought maybe it was just a problem I was having. It does work on all Intel Apple machines, but it doesn't (yet) work on Hackintoshes. TokinDerrick
thanks for clearing this up for me colonel, and giving me good information instead of questioning my question. boot camp is just a file copy software (apple drivers for windows) and a hot partitioning software for HFS. that's all. this is why I want it. John the Geek
thanks for clearing this up for me colonel, and giving me good information instead of questioning my question.this is why I want it. Keep in mind that Apple only writes their software for their hardware. It's always safer to assume that it won't work, at least not without modifications first. There are hacked exceptions, like remediating the kernel to run newer updates on generic x86 hardware using older kernel code, but things like the Apple system firmware (which you want to access here) will likely never work on non-Apple hardware. (However, as colonels1020s said, there is a project working on this.)
