Jalshah depending on which m17x your using wether the r1 or the r2 you may have issues I have tried just about every method for installing and only had any luck with 1 method that I have documented here Alienware m17x R1

seeing as your having the same issue I have seen it seems to stop.... the truth is your seeing a kernel panic I figure you have the R1 (black body without the venting lighting effects) I would suggest following my method to install OSX and then upgrade to snow also when plugging in external media on the R1 plug in on the left side of the keypad in the usb port thats right beside the smartbay sometimes the other ports can cause a kernel panic if you have your lighting on

Thanks a lottt for your reply man!!! but actually i think i am using R2. I have venting lighting effects. And if you go to alienware website, the one u see right now they are seeling, i have that one. So i believe its r2. But i am deffinately going to try the method u have suggested, as i had not come across such method. So nothings wrong in giving it a try. Will let you know what happens. Thanks a lott once again.

Hope it works for you and pay attention the kexts you use since the r1 and r2 use slightly different hardware

And the method I used isn't that widely used took me a month to get it worked out but seems alot more systems didn't need to DSDT patch and the iDeneb 1.4 installer is patched it was and I think still is the only one that is

Hey buddy,

Finally i got snow leopard 10.6.2 on my m17x. Just installed it. Well i tried to use the method you posted. But it did not work out for me very well, as i am not really pro in all this stuff. To be frank i tried to understand the whole guide, but could not.

But i used Empire EFI's latest version, and luckily it worked out for me. There were some obstacles as i did not want to change my laptop's hdd config from raid to ahci. But got it all worked out. and now i have installed 10.6.2 on usb drive from which i am able to boot.

My wireless, key board, touch pad works.

But my sound, dual gtx 280m sli is not working. Trying to figure out how to do that.

If you have any idea, please let me know.

And thanks a lottt once again.

I'm pretty much in the same boat as you. I think that the 9400m on board chipset is interfering with the GTX. THis is too hard.

Hi jalshah

Glad you got it working! Did you run the "EP45UD3P Snow Leopard.pkg file" or manually do the terminal work and come up with your own kext's specific to our mobo?

I saw another post about another maker (ASUS or something) where someone had the 260's and 9400 working under 10.5.6 or 10.6 a few months back. As soon as I can find it again I will post back about it if the kext's and/or strings can be applied to the 280's. I started working on mine a few months back but my parents died and I haven't been in a mood to get back on it till now.

I have a similar rig.

Rig config: Alienware M17x (2009 R2) Core2 Extreme Quad QX9300 2.53GHz, 8GB Dual Channel DDR3, 1GB Dual NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260M, 2x500GB 7,200RPM (ahci), Blu-ray Disc Burner, Windows Vista Business 64-bit

I don't think he actually got it working. He used Empire EFI from prasys which allows us to install a legit Snow Leopard Disc. Unfortunetly, that's the easy part.

The hard part IMO is getting the GTX260m to work. I've tried at least a million different ways to no success. My theory is that the onboard 9400m is interfering with the 260 being recognized and uses properly.

I hope you have better luck.

And really sorry about your loss.
