I used the following Install method: Kalyway 10.5.2 Direct DVD install.

I also followed the instructions posted by someone on a wiki. Posted below.

Dimension 5150

  • Install method: Kalyway 10.5.2 Direct DVD install
  • Kernels: intel speedstep + intel sleep ; Vanilla kernel panics occasionally
  • Processor: Pentium 4HT 3.2 Ghz
  • LAN Intel 100/VE working by copying the following : AppleIntel8255x.kext
  • Onboard Video: intel GMA950 works with minimal screen tearing in Itunes and firefox(use Camino to solve screen tearing issue): select only this in the options as selecting X3100 causes the graphic card to not get recognized properly.
  • Audio: Sigmatel 9221 A1 works using Sigmatel9200.zip ; Had to try a few times before I finally got it to work. use the same instructions used for the ethernet by changing the kext name from AppleIntel8255.kext to AppleHDA.kext in the terminal command. Also have a creative usb soundcard that shows up as usbAudio and works flawlwssly.
  • IDE, SATA and USB work perfectly out of box.
  • NOTE: sleep/Wake doesn't work correctly so it's better to disable sleep and only let the monitor turn off. . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Now, after trying to get those kext files in, it keeps giving me that error about them not being installed properly. As it stands i have no audio or ethernet, but my video works fine. I searched around the forums and tried a couple things that were suggested but i'm stumped. Unfortunately this pc had it's hard drive fail on me and after installing a new one i can't get windows installed on it because it keeps giving me the blue screen of death. With that said i can't go into windows to get the device id's to add to that kext for my ethernet. Osx installs just fine though and gives no issues aside from the audio and ethernet drivers not working. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

In regard to Windows BSing when you try to install it, are you using a version of Windows earlier than the one originally on the computer? Also, Vista and 7 require AHCI mode (or is it APCI?) enabled in the BIOS. This feature is often disabled to make Mac OS X work. Did you disable something starting with A in the BIOS (Sorry I don't remember exactly what it's called :thumbsup_anim:)?

Now for Mac OS X, did you force rebuild the kext cache and repair permissions after you installed the kexts? Permissions repair can be done with Disk Utility and you can rebuild the cache using the -f option on boot.

actually never mind i figured out how to edit the boot plist file and got it booting right with the -f on. Strange thing is that audio driver doesn't seem to be working. Dell says i have a SIGMATEL STAC 92XX C-Major HD Audio but i can't seem to get that driver i posted up there to work. Any clues?

Hehe, strangest thing i did repair the permissions but if i do not use the -f i get the pop up for it not being installed and then no ethernet. And i've been repairing permissions non stop for days now trying to get all these different applehda's to work so i have no clue.
