shriek
I've been thinking about creating a partition image of my windows instalation just like the image of OSx86 that's circulating on the net. I would use a Linux LiveCD to dd the image back to a formatted partition so I could restore my windows instalation back to the initial state. Do you guys know how can I create this kind of image? blahsucks
Norton Ghost is pretty much the leader in this software field. It's 70 US$, but you won't need that LiveCD and it's much easier to use. http://www.symantec.com/sabu/ghost/ghost_personal/

keith04
Hi, thanks, but in case I need to restore the system probably I won't be able to run the software... and since I know there's a way to do it with any linux system I just wanted to know how.. Well, using dd you could do it, but it will copy empty space on the disk as well. dd would be used just like as when installing OSX, just using a drive as the source, and a file (or seperate partition or drive) as the destination. About ghost, it comes with a boot floppy to let you do the backup / restoration, so you would be able to run the software, even doing a restore. I use it at work, and at home, and have never had any problems except my USB mouse not being recognized in DOS. Great program!
