quantum88
Hey Guys, I've been having lots of weird problems with my computer the past week after trying to install TinyXP on an old sketchy harddrive that I had gotton off of a friend. See, I had a working OSX 10.4.5 installation working merilly on my primary drive...so I figured I was safe...nope! After intalling TinyXP on my slave harddrive I booted up to be greeted with an error( PXE ROM) that said no boot file could be found! I tried removing the sketchy harddrive to see if I could boot into OSX...no luck! So I thought maybe somehow my primary harddrive got corrupt, so I back it up onto an external harddrive using my roommates computer, reformated and stuck it back in....inserted my new hacked OSX 10.4.6 dvd and installed OSX....I rebooted and still a similar error (no PXE ROM this time) that said I had no OS to boot to! At this point I'm wondering if it's my mobo, so I played around with the boot order (no really expecting anything) and restarted...to find that my USB keyboard stops working(works find on my roommates comp.)! At this point I'm ready to try something drastic, so I unplug my computer, open it up and remove the mobo's backup battery to force a clearing of the CMOS/BIOS settings. I wait a few minutes, then reasemble everything and turned the {censored} back on. I get this loud shrill beep(like a smoke alarm) from my computer! I thought maybe the battery wasn't secure so I took a little plastic strip and stuck underneath the little clamp to secure it more...still the same annoying sound! I'm stumped! I've exhausted what I know about computers and am considering calling a priest to do an exorcism if you guys can't help me out!! PLEASE HELP! Check and bee sure memory and CPU and PCI and AGP cards are all secure.. pull them and put them all back in with exception of CPU dont worry bout that.. good luck.. quantum88
@ Antman sweet...I checked my case like you recommended, and found that I had forgot to plug in the power cable to my graphics card! So, now I get a normal bios post code and my keyboard works! I am still getting the following error that I neglected to mention earlier: "Secondary IDE channel no 80 conductor cable installed". FYI: my DVD-rw and CD-rw drives are located on my secondary IDE channel. As far as my OSX partition being inactive...I had just reinstalled a fresh copy of OSX! It should already be active! lol...anyways, I'm going to due a 7-pass erase via Disk Utility and then install OSX again and we'll see if that works. Still open to suggestions and I'll keep you guys posted. -TiLT-
This is a glitch on some 4.6 dvd´s. They do not make the partition active. You have to do it manually. Antman
"Secondary IDE channel no 80 conductor cable installed" this message is not a problem it is just informing you that you could use the 80 wire IDE Ribbon instead of the 40 wire for better performance. Check using FDISK and see if your partition is active when ya get done installing OSX if it's not and you set it active yer in bussiness.. quantum88
Yeah...after I did the reinstall I got an "b0 error". I googled it and found that I would have to run fdisk( like antman said). I didn't have fdisk, but I did have access to my roommates All-in-one WinXP Boot CD (basicly a complilation of diag/repair tools) and ran MBRwiz and with a few short keystrokes set my OSX partition to active! YEAH! Anyways, in OSX but for some reason it doesn't see my USB 2.0 harddrive which has all my backup data on it! Anyone had a similar problem? Thanks for all your help so far. By the way: I'm using the 10.4.6 Jas install with the AMDbase and AMD sse2 ( I have a newcastle AMD 64 chip) I don't know if the version/hack of OSX I'm running makes a difference with my USB harddrive or not.... quantum88
Well, the USB harddrive issue was actually me just forgetting to plug the USB cord into the harddrive end. : P Anyways, I noticed when I tried to edit some info on a iTunes song that all I saw was a a black window. I seem to remember this was an AMD specific thing....and there was a ppf patch or something I had to install. But I can't remember what it's called let alone where to get it.....can anyone help?
