Scottapotamas
Yes DEV ID is the device id. Its probably not that important to you... You can get it in the os, then insert it into your kexts ifyou feel inclined or are forced to for compatibility. You should be fine, but a lot of it comes down to trial and error. Oh, and you will need to patch a certain DSDT.aml file for compatibility with snow leopard. This can be done in win or osx 10.5... Use the hackintosh search tool for more info Hackintosh Search As for the keyboard stuff you "don't understand" Charmeleon makes its own directory called extra in the root of a drive. In there is the folders. The voodoo kexts you refered to live in the system, library, extensions folder, not related to the bootloader. This is because some bootloaders don;t load kexts properly from /Extra Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/203816-kext-ideas-and-recommendations-for-dell-studio-1555/#findComment-1370731 Share on other sites

Scottapotamas
ok several things... In a mac install you can use the patcher. It was originally made when the dsdt became necessary for boards around 10.5.5 or something, i never needed it then. In snow leopard, a bug resets the cmos on boot without a patch. You can do this manually quite easily. This would give you the dsdt.aml in its most basic form. A patcher for windows can take in a bios file, then a dsdt.aml and patch either. When this is being done, you can add "drivers" for audio, network and video, hence removing the need for certain kexts. Although this may not be the easiest approach for begginers, its good to look into. You could always try to get someone to patch one for you. Another thing to remember with dsdt.aml's is that you SHOULD NOT share them. They are pretty system specific, and although trying one that someone else made for their system may work, its not a good idea for certain reasons and issues that will be encountered later. Sharing them can also result in the systems potential being unused. The distro for Snow i didn;t know was out, and its great for n00bs, but not a great way to install... they are usually messy installs and not as finely tuned. The patcher in a distro MAY have the same effect as manually patching or win patching, but i cannot help there... Any other questions feel free to shoot...
