thanks

Just curious, Y stay away from the distros?

the people that have made the great leopard distros have decided to not make any for snow. not to send any disrespect to the work that others are doing, i just think they need another year or so to really get it down, if ever.

someone has written a guide that is specifically tailored to your system specs, or close enough to it. if you use a distro for snow you are gonna loose out on learning all the steps, and being able to understand how to fix problems when they arise. which means that you are going to ask questions to people that have taken the time to install manually, which seems to {censored} off most of the people that have the real knowledge.

There are things like rebel efi from psystar that allow certain Intel setups to install directly from a retail snow leopard dvd, course that is from a company that is going to be sued to hell by apple most likely in january, and is built from stolen open source material. i would advice you to stay away from that company as they are using stolen code and selling it as their own, but its up to you

there are free, open source, non-evil things like empire efi, boot123, which i have never used since I have an amd system and so I have no clue about them, but if you are lucky enough to be intel, the right board and so forth, go for it. http://prasys.co.cc/2009/10/empire-efi/#more-2127

all in all, using a distro for snow is up for you. there are some people who want the easy route, they don't want to learn anything, just have snow with minimal effort. if you are one of those people, then by all means go for it. just don't expect any real support by the masses if you ask questions like "i installed snow_distro_whatnot and it dosn't work, what do I do?".

also, what are your exact system specs?

Just curious, Y stay away from the distros?

Some of the distros can cause more problems than they're worth (SnowOSX for me, for example). Nor are distros the fool-proof solution--sometimes you have to do more homework and more hacking to get them to work. Not to mention that depending on your hardware, some distros are literally hit-and-miss.

Do they have their place? Absolutely.

I myself use distros, but even still there's quite a bit of legwork to be done, and I already know my machine is rather picky when it comes to install discs--have not managed to get my Snow retail to boot even with EmpireEFI, custom boot-132, etc. Of course, I don't have full control and cannot exactly make my OS X install to my whims.

For that reason I too recommend that if you look at the specs of your rig and see that it comes close to what another community member has already established with a retail install, I'd say try the retail install first.

As for the comment that said that nobody is making Snow distros--last I heard, uphuck's team is working on iKaros, Hazard just put out something, and SnowOSX has been out there for a while.

And, don't forget, the easiest way to get Snow running is to simply purchase a Mac capable of running it... :)
