archer75
I have a working 10.6.2 snow leopard install. I have my EFI data on a SD card and I use that to boot. However that card is now damaged and I can no longer boot into SL. I have no other machines with OSX in order to create a new boot drive. Is there anyway to boot into my existing install of SL? richk01
Try creating a bootable thumbdrive using one of the methods from: Installer It will put the Chameleon bootloader on a thumbdrive which may be able to get you in to your existing installation. There is a method for creating it using any of the major operating systems. I used the Linux one and it has saved me a couple of times. --Rich Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/203358-sd-card-damaged-how-to-boot-into-existing-install-of-sl/#findComment-1365847 Share on other sites
archer75
That was a no go. Any other ideas? I have tried installing Leopard on this machine but the disc won't even boot. I had a 100% working leopard install on my previous machine but that machine is now my server. I have a very old machine here with a Voodoo3 in it that I tried to install leopard on but I get 2 colors on the screen and can't choose the options I need as I can't see them. As a result the install won't complete. Can linux read and write to HFS+? I could install linux on that machine and use that to rebuild a SD card with the files I need. Aside from that I don't know what else to do. richk01
I haven't been successful in getting write access to hfs+ from Ubuntu 9.10 but it's suppose to be possible. I would try this first: readwrite-to-hfs-on-ubuntu, it should work with other distros as well. Here is something else to try for read/write access in linux, if the first option fails: HFS+ Linux driver Let me know what happens. --Rich Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/203358-sd-card-damaged-how-to-boot-into-existing-install-of-sl/#findComment-1366500 Share on other sites

archer75
simply install bootthink using windows on a pendrive and boot from it You have a link? The one link I found requires that I become a premium member of rapidshare. Any other links are either dead or the mac version. edit- I downloaded the rapidshare link I found and it's the mac version. I can't find a windows version of this anywhere. archer75
I downloaded a trial of macdrive 8 which will let me read and write to HFS+ drives. However it won't write to journaled drives. I was still able to access my OSX drive and copy off the files I need to create a boot disk. So I have the files, I just need some method for creating a mac bootable disc with those files. Just copying them to a USB drive doesn't work. I've been googling all day. Found tons of message board posts with links where the author had removed the file from rapidshare. More links that were actually the mac file. Hell i've been translating chinese to download it from those sites. Couldn't find it anywhere. Thanks! archer75
after much trial and error I haven't been able to get my install to boot. However I was able to pull some files from my SL install with macdrive 8 and then use transmac http://www.asy.com/scrtm.htm to rebuild my SD card with those files and I can boot into my install again. Just wanted to update in case anyone has a similar problem.
