Gparted should work.

http://gparted.sourceforge.net/download.php

Delete all Partitions - Format the disk as Fat. And when you install osx then create a Partition with OS X DVD (Disk Utility)

i have a dell xps 420 with a 500gb drive and i am trying to decide if i want to purchase another internal drive or an external to serve as my 0SX disk.

i like just swapping external drives from computer to computer, but i figure it would probably always be with this computer anyway.

i have seen the set ups that allow you to plug in external drives as if they were thumb drive.

do you know of any problems running OSX from an external drive?
