Hi there,

Yesterday I've setupped Mac OS X 10.4.6 (with Goatsecx 10.4.6 image) on my new notebook.

It's a Samsung X60 with ATi Radeon Mobility X1600 (R56-P) and Intel i945 chipset..

My problem at this point is how to get the soundcard working?

At soundsettings, within Mac OS X, I can't change loudness and there are no in- or output devices mentioned.

At About my Mac the Sound-device is labeled as Intel High Definition Audio but there are no aditional informations.

When I looked at www.samsung.com I noticed that in the tec specs. is mentioned HD Audio Codec, AD1986A.

The exact name (got it from Everest) is Intel 82801GMB ICH7-M - High Definition Audio Controller.

At windows control panel (and within dxdiag) the sound device is labeled SoundMAX HD Audio.

The DeviceID is 27d8 and VendiorID is 8086.

Till now I tried to put both IDs in AppleAC97Audio.kext (as mentioned in the AC97-Audio howto). After I did all the necessary things I received a notice: Installation succsessfull. But there's still no sound, I can not change loudness and there's no device posted under input nor under output.

So I tried to use AppleHDA.kext. It looked good because the IDs within were the same as mine. So I tried to load the kext. But I received an error: Missing dependencies.

I also tried to modify the AppleAzaliaAudio.kext with my IDs. But same thing as above with AppleAC97Audio.

Could anybody help me out?

Sorry about my bad english, but I'm no native.

OrcoX

No one can help me?

I've installed OS X again.

When I load AppleHDA.kext now I receive a message "AppleHDA.kext is already loaded"

But in my system log (Console > system.log) I see the following: "localhost kernel[0]: AppleHDA.kext failed to load: unable to locate 'layout_id' properly".

Now the only .plist file (in AppleHDA.kext) where I could find Layout_ID was /System/Library/Extensions/AppleHDA.kext/Contents/Info.plist, so I watched on it and saw that the strings from Layout_ID are 0 and 2. But I don't know for what they're standing (both: keys and strings).

I think I have to load AppleHDA.kext, because in AppleHDAController.kext within AppleHDA.kext is my Soundchip listed in the Info.plist file (with the exact VendiorID and DeveloperID and it's marked under Intel ICH7 HDA (exactly what I have, and these one is not in AppleAC97Audio.kext\AppleAC97AudioIntelICH.kext - so this file seems not the correct one for me, right?).

and there, that may fix our ATI card problem problem. ^_- (PS: im not sure if thisll help tho because it says it doesnt work with any of the X1000 series im not sure, so dont blame me if it doesnt work or messes something up lol xD)

Oh, thank you.

I tried your version but sound is still not working. I did it exactly as you mentioned. When I load the new kextfile I receive "installation succsessfull". But there is still no Sound device listed in the Soundtab and I can't change the volume eighter.

I tried allready the callisto driver for my graphic card, but it doen't work. With it I receive a weird screen (it's blue with white stripes overall the screen). The workaround from Borisbadenov also doesn't work for me (tried it) because my DVI output doesn't work after it and the internal LCD is connected to it.

No, there's no output device listed (same with input device).

The only place where something about the audio device is mentioned is in About this Mac. There is an Intel High Definition Audio noted. But only the header, nothing else.

Edit:

Everything is greyed in the Audio-Midi Setup, expcet the helpbutton. So I can't do anything there. But under output is mentioned "no output device". It's the same with input (to the left of output).

Hi Mac-Nipulate,

Please help!

I have SoundMAX 1986A too, but still no volume slider and sound output

even after following your guides.

My system seems to be using HD audio (AppleHDA.kext loaded) with

HD audio hub "Ven: 8086, Dev: 27D8".

And from windows, I could see "Ven: 11D4, Dev: 1986", which is supposed

to be the SoundMAX 1986A chip, right?

I've tried several combinations with AppleAC97Audio, AppleHDA, and

AppleAzaliaAudio; unfortunately, any of them could be loaded manually,

but when I reboot the system, none of them except AppleHDA loaded

automatically.

Btw, below please find excerpted output from "ioreg -l".

Kindly please help me find a solution to fix the audio problem.

Many Thanks!
