HP Envy 15" Fails any OSX install! Help.

I looking for sound first.. And how about wireless?

 

Wireless = No, or at least not until July at the earliest.

 

Sound = I did something that made the sound work ... until I rebooted, then it went away. I tried to replicate what I did before, but it didn't work ... so I have no idea what is going on. Since then, I haven't had any sound at all.

 

Clues to sound work though: Envy's use the IDT High Defintion Audio.

 

Also, I'm going to bed ... it's 5 am here.

success install usb wireless lan dongle..

 

i got trouble with adjusting brightness here..

Still can't get sound consistently work ... though it works until reboot when I have previously installed the AppleHDA and HDAEnabler kexts, and then delete them and then install the VoodooHDA kext. But as I said, it only works until I reboot ... been looking for an answer, but haven't gotten one yet. Stay tuned.

!! Well that is an improvement ... let me know what happens.

 

for sound and brightness, i think we must edit dsdt.aml... But how to do that? I still not understand yet after reading on forum..

something i got minus again... my baterry drain so fast... i read must edit DSDT again...

I'm not totally clear on how to edit the DSDT either ... but I will take a look at it as soon as I can figure out how to upgrade to 10.6.3. Also, never will become a non-n00b at anything until we have built up experience :(. And yeah, these Envy's sure don't have much battery life. But at least they have the performance! We only need to unlock it for OS X ;-)

Nothing right now for the DSDT. I've been busy doing some other things ...

 

But I can report that I did have some luck doing a "vanilla" install with a retail DVD, you have to use Chameleon RC3 with Boot EFI 10.5, just like the Hazard version. However, the retail DVD needs to be copied to a USB device ... there are plenty of places on the web that explain more in detail how that works. But you have to have a working OS X install somewhere to do all of this.

have a something better for peripheral if using retail version? i trying patching DSDT on windows, copied dsdt.aml in root folder on mac, but nothing work, in -v on boot still apparently the same..

The point of the retail version, I guess, is that it allows easier, no-worries updating and, in my case, allows for a legal hackintosh. That last point is important because if I am carrying this Envy around in a coffee shop to do some work, I don't want anyone getting on my case about it. As for peripherals, I am not sure it is any better ... it's just a vanilla Snow Leopard.

yea, u right... i'm being affraid too.. :) please show me step by step how to make it retail version with "vanilla" and chameleon RC3.. i'm trying install it, but still cannot enter installation mode.. :D

Honestly, I'm still trying to boot into the partition I made ... but I haven't been able to spend much time recently on OS X (its been at least 3 days since I last logged onto the working partition).

Can anyone post a walkthrough guide for installing snow leopard on hp envy?

Is it doable?pls give a detailed guide becausxe some of us dont know even the basics!

I have a step-by-step "guide" that I posted on the previous page (page 3). It's not really a walkthrough, but just the EXACT steps that I took to make the install work. Ironically, I haven't really touched the Hackintosh portion in a long while now. Though your lucky that I just looked on this forum today :wacko: I was wondering if anyone else had made any progress in making the Hackintosh more "useable", though apparently no one has done anything.

 

Also, my "guide", as far as I know, only works for 1st generation Envy 15's ... so sorry if you have the newer model :-(

i am afraid i do have the newer model Hp envy 15t-1100 cto :(:(

that means that i cannot use snow leopard on it??

Okay, I realize this isn't quite "Hackintosh" or the most ideal solution, but I managed to install Snow Leopard on Virtualbox using a legit Snow Leopard DVD. This method runs MUCH better if your using Windows 7 (or Linux, for that matter), because it allows you to have 3D acceleration, and you can utilize more than one core (much more of an improvement than the "hackintosh" solution, anyway). Detailed, step-by-step tutorial here:

I'm really sure this will work no matter what generation Envy your running. It also has steps to allow you bump up the resolution, so you can just run it on full-screen mode. Also, make sure to open up the BIOS settings and Enable "Virtualization", I didn't realize I had that disabled and it took me an hour or so to catch.

I've successfully figured out how to install OS X. Will post some updates soon. Currently working on perfecting everything. Wifi most probably will never work until there is a driver, but i'm pretty confident on the rest. After getting them to work, Perfecting them would take time. Currently working : Audio, Ethernet, USB(With DSDT) , Webcam, etc. Not sure if Native Power Management works. Will check.
