I never heard of that board before, but if you are sure it can run 10.6, install it on GUID, resize partition, clone partition, update to 10.6.2 and see what happens ... E5300 -should- be able to run vanilla kernel (at least my 6300 does). djczer
hello i have the same mobo, can you explain how did you do to install Snow Leopardbecause i can't and if you have a solution for me, i'll thanksfull (by the way do i have to flash the bios ?) ? I have an HP Pavilion - a6648f which uses this motherboard ASUS IPIBL-LB (Benicia). I've had great success in most of the components being compatible with Snow 10.6 using the Retail install CD. Of course I do remember upgrading the bios when I was attempting to install 10.5.6 and was successful at that as well. The current BIOS is 5.17 1/17/08 that I have. Not sure which one everyone else is using that works fine. I couldn't tell you if it works with the standard BIOS. With that said this is how I installed it on a 2nd drive I put in. I have Windows on the standard stock drive and OSX on the 2nd and using Chameleon to choose which OS to boot up. Steps to install. 1) Boot off of Empire EFI - http://prasys.co.cc/tag/empire-efi/ 2) Take out the EFI when prompted and put in Snow Retail DVD (Press F5 to refresh and see DVD) 3) Format drive and install 4) Resulting Installation leaves me no sound but I got my Network Card working fine so I'm able to download drivers for Sound and Video. I'm using a custom video card, so I had to find drivers for that. I use dual monitors, so it's important for me to get those to work. I'm using a GS250 video card and there's a patch for that. For the sound, the only thing that has worked for me was Voodoo HDA (latest build). As soon I upgraded to 10.3 it broke video and sound, so I'm not going to update until I feel comfortable. I just had to reformat everything and start from scratch because my image creation (Disk Utility) of the working system doesn't work. Is anyone else having an issue with creating an image and it not work? I hope this helps everyone. This is for the most part a great machine.
