Help with P5W DH Deluxe and ATI X1900XT

I've been trying to get Snow leopard installed via various methods but can't even boot the installer.

I started with.

http://www.hackint0sh.org/f152/96112.htm

It hung up right after the mac addressed for my ethernet ports. Installed newest BIOS and started searching, it seemed like I needed to delete AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext so I went through the process of installing the DVD onto a thumb drive and installing the Chameleon 2 RC3 from kexts.com.

Got stuck at the same point. So I started adding Extensions and things into the Extras folder, but have not gotten any further. I after adding certain kexts I got kernel panics tracing to the ATA family so I unplugged my DVD drive and that went away.

I tried the kexts and DSDT from this post as well.

I see a flicker right before it hangs up, so I think it might have to do with my video card.

I can't seem to find much information about the X1900XT card. I have a Mac pro I could grab the 8800GT out of, but I'm perplexed to all the people installing PCIexpress2.0 slots in the MB as it is a express1.1 board. I have an X1600XT silent that I used to use, I could try but I've had trouble switching out graphics cards and it not wanting to post

Regardless of me deleting kexts or adding I STILL get

ACPI_SMC_PlatformPlugin::start - waitForService(resourceMatching(AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement) timed out

right when or before it hangs (hard to tell)

I have CI QE working using the script here http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=184815

However the Natit.kext doesn't seem to be loading. And I attempted to manually set the resolution to 1920x1200, but it only boots in 1600x1200.

Does anyone have any idea what I can do to get this working? Or would I be better off getting a more compatible GPU?

That ATYInject didn't work either. My device ID is actually already there, presumably because this card is nearly identical to the cards used by apple for the first Mac Pros.

I'm attempting to use PCIstring, but it doesn't seems to be working.

How exactly does one implement that?

Using a DSDT I made with DSDTPatcher doesn't seem to have helped either.

It certainly appears that ATI cards are second rate citizens in this new age of OSx86.

Going by the RebelEFI compatibility page, (as well all know what rebelEFI is based on)

http://wiki.psystar.com/index.php/Graphic_Cards

I guess I'll either get an 8800 or something similarly cheap, or stay in 10.5.2 land on this computer (its really just a secondary computer for my Fiance to WoW on anyway).

if you get a card get one from newegg open boxed... i bought a MSI 9800 GT 512 OC for like 130 bucks...

here is a updated verison http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...-441R-_-Product

not bad price and i used the osx86tools to add efi strings to the boot... of course i had to do the custom but its simple if you run it as custom... as long as you know what you have its not hard i entered in this for my custom data for my GFX info:

nVidia GeForce 9800 GT

512MB

DVI / DVI

and i was done...

then hit the add to boot.plist button... and restart and then go to display and select your monitor rez and refresh rate and boom your done with the rez...

hope this helps you at all...

I picked up a 8800GT from craigslist for $60, but it appears to be DOA, the fan doesn't spin up and there is video at post. I'll contact the seller and attempt to get a refund.

In the mean time, I'll probably pop by Best Buy to get a test video card I can just return when I'm done with it. But I'll be out of town for 2 days so unfortunately I'll have to leave the project unfinished.

From reading around it seems that even the 4870 is more temperamental than the 8xxx-2xx series Nvidia chips.

What method did you use? Was it as easy as using Chameleon 2 RC3 with GraphicsEnabler = yes in the com.apple.Boot.plist?

I'll be swinging by Fry's tomorrow in Seattle to pickup something, they have some tremendous deals on gpus in my opinion. 9800GT's for $80-100, just a little more for 250 GTS's

I'll look into some ATI cards, but for now it seems that Nvidia is the way to go.

Anyone else have any ideas about super easy to OSx86 GPUS?

Hey Jared Kipe, I've been trying to get my Asus P5W DH Deluxe and ATI X1900XTX working too.

Guess what I finally made it with a quite simple solution. Prepare a USB stick with myHack and install it. Then boot into single user mode and delete the .kext files for your ATI card (in my case ATIRadeonX1000.kext and ATI1900Controller.kext). And bingo I got the system to boot.

Credits go to rectifier23 (post under http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=212771).

If you're enjoying a Nvidia card... good for you but I thought that other people might find this info useful too.

Good luck!
