GrootWitBaas
I have the EP43 UD3L and the ATI 4850 display card and used your USB method for installation. I can only use safe mode to get into my installed SL (mine is the retail 10.6.0) and if i try to boot normally, it will either hang at the white page or end up with a broken cluttered white black + white screen if I used the -v toggle. I'm using the HDMI output as well. I'm not sure what have I done wrong. Is it my display card or it's because the HDMI port? Your problem is most probably the ATI card. There are lots of ways to fix this, In this same thread or elsewhere more ATI specific. Good Luck Now onto all the other posts that are all asking about the ISO and rar and so on, so here is to vyan28, VinP14, ArticFox and others : READ the INSTRUCTIONS Please. IF you use windows!!! I have just personally gone back to the DL pages. I have selected the CD. It downloads a file "Kakewalk2.2.zip" I open this file with winzip. You will see inside a file marked here That is the file you want to burn. If you are on a mac, then there is a application in this file, you run this and select your board. It will make a ISO. Burn this ISO. IF you use USB for download ... You have to open thew manual and read, but in short Tom Sawyer has answered this already in post 2793 (yes one page back) just follow the instructions Now for every one asking "will this and that work" .... I honestly do not know, and most people here won't either !!! The only way to find out is to try. Reading before buying can safe you lots of headaches. Most Gigabyte boards will work. Not all will work with Kakewalk out of the box, but with some tweaking Most will work. If you are not sure then look at some one here with a successful setup, and buy exactly the same, this is a sure way to know it will work. VinP14
when I open and unzip winzip/rar files, I hit extract here. mine looked nothing like that picture. but I got the KakewalkLegacy.ISO. now I used 2 versions of Empire EFI, 2 versions of #####, and Kakewalk. none of these get the job done. with an X58 ATI based Empire EFI I can boot from the disc to 10.6.0. any update kills the system. installing MyHack will make sure I never get to boot again and have to re-install. with Kakewalk I had the quickest time loading the installation menu. but I can't actually boot into OSx from it. I went over the Bios settings for my board. I have my SATA Ports connected in slot 0 and 1 following both guides and by reading the mobo manual. It might be my video card.... I notice a text in the boot CD's saying "nvram" failed. exclude the "n" and we have VRAM. so that is a theory. it might be my video. here is my hardware if anybody has an Idea. for now I am doing an ATI 4870 specific version of #####. supposodly works right on install at full resolution etc. GA-X58A-UD3R i7-930 HIS ATi 4870 IceQ4+Turbo (1GB) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/195248-kakewalk-minimal-effort-install-ep45-ex58-p55-g41/page/113/#findComment-1472350 Share on other sites

When doing the install make sure you have 4Gig or less memory, until you can boot and all works, then add the extra (if you have more than 4) back. Remember also you are using the legacy boot cd, might be better to burn one from a mac for your system. Your problem is most probably with the ATI card ...You have to look into this. NVRAM is not VRAM (Google), but ATI is known to have trouble with Hacks.... so maybe have a look for a Nvidia card like the 9500gt (cheap and works out of the box) just to get every thing up and running, then look into the ATI and how to make it work. Jumping from install to install does not make it easier ...unless you fully reformat the drive, as some of them might have a boot loader installed that does not work with the other install method. VinP14
I will give it a shot burning the disc from OSx. everything else is followed right down the line. I'm running a single 2GB stick of RAM this 4870 was from my old computer. I can sell my old computer with that 4870 installed after I get this Hackintosh running. so it wont be a waste if I buy a new primary video card. If it comes down to it I could buy a boot/install video card. but would an XFX 1GB GTS 250 run well? I know the 9500GT (512 passive by Gainward) works out of the box, but I have also a GT120(1Gb PC version) and is what is used in real macs(EFI MAC version), that is supposed to be the exact same chip-set as the 9500Gt but it does not work for me in OSX without some extra work. The reason I suggested the 9500 is because it is cheap, and known to work with out any problems. Have a look in the forum on the one you want to try, and make sure that some one have it working with minimal effort. Your idea of selling the ATI with the old PC is probably a good one, thou I also know people are able to get the ATI's to work, I personally dislike them because of some History I had with them, but please don't let that influence your choice! I can tell you from experience a Zotac 9500 GT 512mb (bought because it was on sale at Newegg) works fine. Most 9500GT and 9400 GT cards should work fine. In a 10.5.8 build, I used a passive (silent) cooled Sparkle 9400 GT, and it was (and is) completely compatible. My criteria for choice was the same for both of these cards, COST! They were very cheap and on sale! I figured I would upgrade later, but really, it's not necessary, they do all the video fine, I didn't bother. I don't game with the Mac, if I did, I would use a faster PC anyway, as the game selection is superior. I am building a "better" quad unit now, and am using a Gigabyte 9800 gt, and the video is also fine, I do have other issues, however, so that one is not finished yet. VinP14
I have a few reasons to believe I have a bad hard drive. It is making Screeching noises. I noticed the screeching when I ran Kakewalk and after that I am getting this line of text in the Bios from ##### (running while I joined the topic a page back) and in my next install attempt. What makes me near certain now is the screeching noises. before hand it was on the noisy end. I am not 100% certain the drive is bad but it might be the problem my parents are covering me some money for my current computer. so I will ask them to place it on an order for a new drive and 9500GT. sorry the topic swayed away from Kakewalk. just the process of troubleshooting. I could literally flood this post with all the reasons I think the drive is bad. so it probably is bad. if thats the case I am off from troubleshooting for a week Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/195248-kakewalk-minimal-effort-install-ep45-ex58-p55-g41/page/113/#findComment-1472478 Share on other sites

Strange that the LAN isn't working OOTB... same board, same chip etc. You've may have already done this but assuming the lan is enabled in the bios, there is a setting for network booting, you could try turning that feature off and see if it wakes up the card to OS X. PXE boot shouldn't matter, but you never know. Other than that... since your board is a rev 2.0 and mine is a 1.0, they very well could have changed the chip/config slightly on the network port. If you have windows on the box, can you check on what it thinks the chip/controller is? That might help direct you to a correct kext if they have indeed changed the chipset. How's that 3008fpw? apple_core
hi all, successfully used Kakewalk for my dedicated build - i7-920, ga-x58a-ud3r (rev2.0), 6gb ddr3-1600, gtx-285. Can you please clarify which motherboard you have? You say it is the "ga-x58a-ud3r" yet in your signature you list an ex58-ud3r. Those are two DIFFERENT motherboards. I think a lot of people confuse them including mrjanek. A while ago he listed the GA-X58A-* as being compatible but at the time, I believe, he was coding for the GA-EX58-*, although now he really is working on the GA-X58A-* ones. I think this causes a lot of confusion with regards to why some people have no problems with sound while others do, because the sound chip is different between these two classes of boards. Congratulations anyway on your build! guckl
Hi, I have a GA-X58A-UD5 (-00AR) and I have the problem that sound is not working. I used Kakewalk 2.2 install with EX58A-UD7 option. 1.Sound not working I tried already to patch the sound first with ex58_ud5_audio.zip (from this threat http://www.efixusers.com/showthread.php?t=605 ) and also ##### but with no success. 2.Quicktime (H264) not working Also have the strange problem that new QuickTime X does not play H264 files- when it opens you can click on play but does not play - is this connected. The old QuickTime7 plays the file- but after pressing PLAY it takes a few seconds until it starts. Is it sound related that QuicktimeX does not start? (Also in preview mode video is not playing) Thanks in advance for your response. 3. Native support of GA-X58A-UD5 for Kakewalk Hope that Kakewalk soon supports X58A-UD5 - if there is anything I can do please please tell me. Added screenshots for reference http://i45.tinypic.com/21jonxc.png Sound gets detected in the System Profiler http://i45.tinypic.com/6qxhds.png No Audio Devices detected in System Preferences Nevermind, got the Audio up and running using the VoodooHDA Kext that's attached HERE Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/195248-kakewalk-minimal-effort-install-ep45-ex58-p55-g41/page/113/#findComment-1473067 Share on other sites
allnamesr2
Can you please clarify which motherboard you have? You say it is the "ga-x58a-ud3r" yet in your signature you list an ex58-ud3r. Those are two DIFFERENT motherboards. I think a lot of people confuse them including mrjanek. A while ago he listed the GA-X58A-* as being compatible but at the time, I believe, he was coding for the GA-EX58-*, although now he really is working on the GA-X58A-* ones. I think this causes a lot of confusion with regards to why some people have no problems with sound while others do, because the sound chip is different between these two classes of boards. Congratulations anyway on your build! ohh.. maybe that is why. so does sound not work for the x58a-udr3 as of right now? do you know if everything works for x58a-ud7? i still have time left for me to change motherboards. just have to pay a restocking fee. can anyone with x58a-ud7 confirm that everything is working correctly or not Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/195248-kakewalk-minimal-effort-install-ep45-ex58-p55-g41/page/113/#findComment-1473293 Share on other sites
