bossent20
hi everyone i finally installed 10.6 and everything is working fine. sleep mode, shutdown, restart etc... i wanted to know however, how i can backup this OS to an image file before installing anything else on it. so just in case i have to reinstall the OS i can do so from an image (if possible, or backup disc) rather than having to go back to 10.5, then installing 10.6 from there using 2 hard drives. this is basically to overcome that problem and install over the current hard drive if i ever need to so do i need a backup for this, or is it possible to install 10.6 over a current 10.6 (same hard drive) the same way as you would when installing from a DVD generally? many thanks Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/194966-how-do-i-backup-my-good-install-of-sl-106/ Share on other sites
Macsperience
if you are using mac you can use this application: http://www.bombich.com/ called CCC - Carbon Copy Cloner else if you have windows on your hack, too you should use Acronis Disk Director Suite. scwhar
Yes the Carbon thing just does an exact copy of your install to another partition, which you can boot from. I have W7 too but used carbon and have tested the copy it works fine, I keep an old USB stick with chameleon on to boot off too. bossent20
wll all i did was open CCC and simply do a backup to an image file for my current OS so now i have all my applications, etc... backed up into an dmg image file. basically, my OS as an image i hope this was correct btw how do i use chameleon to load mac and windows from one page right now i have my system booting into the drive used for windows 7. when i come to chameleon it shows mac os x and windows 7 drives, but when selecting windows 7 it wont go into it. it says something about boot missing i have to use the windows vista boot manager instead for now Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/194966-how-do-i-backup-my-good-install-of-sl-106/#findComment-1316773 Share on other sites

bossent20
wow not bad at all i basically used that DMG backup of when i finished installing SL 10.6 i used it to restore over my windows drive and it worked a charm. just like doing a restore point i now have to put 10.6 back to the 80gb and have windows installed to the 250gb again but at least it know it works only problem was... i was unable to load any of my NTFS drives in disk utility when using dvd bootup of the mac install dvd (i.e. iatkos v7) instead i had to do the restore within my Leopard OS, and from there having no choice but to wipe off windows is there a way to read my DMG backup file from my internal drives under disk utility without being inside the MAC OS? thanks Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/194966-how-do-i-backup-my-good-install-of-sl-106/#findComment-1317480 Share on other sites
