Hi there, semi newbie here.

been tryin for several weeks now and read hundreds of post that other people have easilly and sucessfully upgraded to 10.5.2 or above with Kalyway upgrade disc.

tried 3 differant downloads of 10.5.2 and just freezes few seconds into the black screen with white text while its loading..

10.5.1 boots fine apart from the monitor needed to boot up, making a dongle so i dont have to have plugged into a monitor to use it...

Anyone with intel not ati graphics managed to upgrade, or fresh install higher than 10.5.1?

Any help appreciated

i have a E1505.. which is the same as 6400.. running Snow Leopard 10.6.2!! so, yeah, it is possible. however i did a fresh retail install. which is probably a better option anyways. if i were you, i would back up all the stuff and do a fresh install.

Thanks for the reply..

I have tried that guide before but didnt seem to get it right..

It is a bit loss on the details and not 100% up to speed with some bits.

Could you run over it in more details or do you know of any other guide more Noob friendly???

Thanks for the reply..

i followed the above guide upto (and including) step 7.

then i moved to ...

http://reviewandhowto.com/2009/09/28/guide...n-e1505-laptop/

the above guide from the "Booting without the CD" section of the guide.. all the way to the end.

i successfully installed snow leopard 10.6.0 retail dvd on my laptop, without the need of a prior osx version.. or extra hard-drive or a thumb drive.

eeeek.. looks like the second link is not available anymore :-(

but thankx to the google-cache feature.. here it is:

Booting without the CD

So now that Snow Leopard is working on your computer except for dual core and booting without the CD, we are about to fix these problems.

There are a few more files you will have to download…

VoodooHDA Audio Driver

VoodooPS2Controller

VoodooSDHC

VoodooPower

VoodooTSCSync

Chameleon Bootloader

Chameleon Patched Boot File

FakeSMC.kext

NullCPUPowerManagement.kext

Intel GMA 950 Graphics Driver

kext helper b7

ShowAllFiles Utility

After you are done downloading the long list of files, you will want to start off by going to /System/Library/Extensions and deleting AppleIntelCPUPowerMangement.kext and AppleIntelCPUPowerManagementClient.kext.

Now open kext helper b7 and install VoodooHDA, VoodooSDHC, VoodooPower, VoodooTSCSync, fakesmc.kext and NullCPUPowerManagement.kext

Run the installers for VoodooPS2Controllers and GMA950.

Now you run the Chameleon 2.0 RC2 bootloader installer. Make sure to set the install location to your main hard drive that Snow Leopard is installed onto. Then click Customize and deselect the Extra and Option boxes. You can keep whatever themes you like and make sure you choose Chameleon Standard. Then you can install. If it says the installation failed, don’t worry, just exit out. Now open the ShowAllFiles utility and hit Show All Files. Now head to the root of your hard drive and delete the file called boot and put the patched one you downloaded in the root.

Now that you are all done, you can cross your fingers and reboot without the CD. Just boot like you normally would and Chameleon should pop up. This time you don’t have to type “cpus=1″, but if you have the Core 2 Duo then you still have to hit space and type “arch=i386″. Make sure to boot the hard drive that you have Snow Leopard installed onto, not the Snow Leopard Installer partition.

Everything should work now! Congratulations! Mac OS X Snow Leopard is fully working on your laptop.

Now.. for some extras

Updating to 10.6.1

All you have to do is go to Apple Software Update and update to 10.6.1

Booting without “arch=i386″

Go to Library>Preferences>SystemConfiguration and open com.apple.boot.plist

Before the last </dict> add in..

<key>arch</key>

<string>i386</string>

If you aren’t able to save it then right click on the file, hit Get Info and hit the arrow by Sharing and Permissions and change the admin privileges from Read only, to Read and Write only. Then you have to click on a white space in the folder and do the same thing. Save com.apple.boot.plist and reboot, now you don’t have to add “arch=i386″ at boot.
