My second attempt, I kept getting the dreaded "waiting for root device" message.... Finally I got a working setup (no audio for the moment, I am going to turn on the built-in audio and grab my other speakers to test it). I originally had my Intel Sata drives in a raid setup so I was using my primary pata hd. I used partition magic to split off some free space...long story short, the disk utility included with the apple installer (what's the name of it again???) i ended up wiping my hd clean (bye bye winxp install) and for all that i got the "waiting for root device" error message... finally, i backed up all my stuff on my intel sata raid onto the promise, took the intel sata out of raid mode (Unhooked my pata hd on the intel), formatted the maxtor sata drive from within the apple installer, installed osx, rebooted (plugged back in the pata hd) and damn, it's working!!!! I just have to hit "F8" at bootup to select the HD to boot from (which I think is better than using a bootloader, but that's just me)... I also didn't want my winxp install to get fu**ed up again so that's why I unplugged it during the OSX install. I hope this helps someone! I'll be happy to answer any questions anyone might have...BTW, I am typing this from within Safari right now!!! mistermaggi
So the OS recognizes the Promise-Raid-Chip? Which Chip is it? Does it work in RAID-Mode or only in IDE-Mode? Thanks for your help, MisterMaggi Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/1941-success-on-custom-pc/#findComment-203717 Share on other sites
wrzonance
Hello all, new here, first post. This build is nearly identical to my own. I have a P4P800E mobo, and an ATI Radeon 9800 PRO I can get it to install, but there are a few components which aren't working. First of all, the most frustrating. My 9800 PRO won't work properly. I have only a 1024 x 768 screen res. Secondly, and also very frustrating, I have 2 SATA drives on the Promise Raid controller, configured to run as IDE drives; they won't work. And finally, my LAN won't work. Intestingly, Audio works perfectly (Realtek). SO. I might repost this somewhere else, that is more relavent. But I'm curious. Did you have to install any other update packs to get your ATI/Promise/LAN to work properly? -----Adam Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/1941-success-on-custom-pc/#findComment-364525 Share on other sites
