ryemac3
I ripped my OSX 10.6 DVD to a .dmg. I then restored the image to an 8G USB drive and prepped it with Netbook Maker. I booted my MSi WIND U100 with the USB drive and installed 10.6 w/o a hitch. I had the 10.6.1 update on my USB drive so I ran the installer from that, instead of doing a Software Update. The upgrade went without a hitch. I then installed Netbook Installer to my WIND and now I can boot into 10.6.1 without the USB drive. All is good, except I now noticed that I do not have a working ethernet connection. My Airport card is detected and works. But the hardwired connection is not detected at all. Anyone have any idea on how to enable my wired network connection? Seems like I'm missing a kext. laotzu3
Hi Ryemac3 Could you possibly contribute to the forum by adding a step-by-step guide to your success? If you have 10.6.1 working with video and wifi you've done quite well and would love to replicate your success. ryemac3
Hi Ryemac3Could you possibly contribute to the forum by adding a step-by-step guide to your success? If you have 10.6.1 working with video and wifi you've done quite well and would love to replicate your success. Thanks Laotzu3 Wow, didn't realize I achieved such a feat! 1. Anyway, I downloaded NetBook Maker and NetBook Installer 0.8.3 RC3 from here: google code 2. I inserted my retail OSX 10.6 DVD and opened Disk Utility. 3. I created a .dmg from that usuing default settings. 4. I inserted an 8G thumb drive and partitioned it as Mac HFS Journaled, 1 partition, GUID 5. I then pressed "Restore" and restored the 10.6.dmg to the newly formatted thumb drive. That took about 30 minutes. 6. Once the image was copied to the thumb drive, I ran Netbook maker and that prepped the drive to be bootable. 7. I went to apple.com and downloaded the 70M 10.6.1 update installer. 8. I copied the 10.6.1 installer as well as netbook installer to the thumb drive. Now for the install: 1. I think I set ACHI mode to enabled in the BIOS, I can't remember, but if the installer doesn't work, try that. 2. I booted up and held F11, chose my thumb drive as the boot drive and got this: 3. I chose the image from the thumb drive "Mac OSX Install DVD" and the installer began: 4. The screen stayed like this for about 10 minutes. I thought it hung, but I left it alone and eventually it came to the installer: Notice the screen resolution is funny. It's actually 1024x768 as apposed to 1024x600. I let it be for the time being. Once 10.6 was installed, I rebooted from the thumb drive again, using NetbookMaker as the boot device, but this time, instead of picking the "Mac OS X Install DVD", I chose WIND. That's my hard dive that has the fresh install of 10.6 on it. Once I got to a desktop, it was clear that the resolution was 1024x768 As the dock is below the LCD. There's also no 1024x600 option in System Preferences so I can't adjust it. I let it be for now, hoping that 10.6.1 would fix it. I ran the NetBook Installer that was on my thumb drive and then ran the 10.6.1 installer from my thumb drive. That went off without a hitch. Once that was done, I rebooted again using the Netbook Maker thumb drive. Once I was back in 10.6.1 I noticed the resolution was fixed. So I don't really know if it was 10.6.1 that fixed it, or if it was netbook installer that fixed it. In any case the resolution is OK now. I have not had a chance to check and see what does and doesn't work. Except ethernet, that's not detected, but wifi works (I installed a genuine Apple Airport card from a 2008 Mac Pro). As far as sound, mic, camera, I'll have to check it out when I get home tonight. ryemac3
I got ethernet working with my 10.6.1 install. I used CyberGreg's Utility pack that he released for 10.5. I unchecked all the other options like video, audio, trackpad, etc. I just installed the ethernet driver and restarted. It hung while shutting down so I did a hard boot. It took several minutes to come back up. But when it did, I had ethernet... I'm going to have to play around with the video. Although I have full resolution, I noticed that I don''t get that ripple effect when I drop a new widget in Dashboard. Here's how I installed a 2008 Mac Pro Airport Extreme card in my MSi WIND U100 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/192916-1061-on-msi-wind-smooth-install-but-no-ethernet-help/#findComment-1304750 Share on other sites
ryemac3
I ran CyberGreg's OSX86 Tools and was able to edit the ATM screen to identify my CPU and RAM settings. I tied to use it to enable Quartz but no luck. rentsdue
Hello!! New to the forum, just want to give two big thumbs up for the good work in this 10.6 on wind stuff. . I have been successful going off an 8gb micro sd card in a sansa fuze.. kinda fun. I happen to be running the ralink card and the drivers used on 10.5 work just fine. I am fairly sure im double posting here, i'll run the risk of wearing the dunce cap on my first post and attach the installer. I have been having issues with the trackpad, and will post up what I find. Initially cybergreg's trackpad control within the system pref's panel just hangs. Again thanks everyone for the good work!
