LukeMotion
How has everyone found the general of stability of Snow Leopard so far and can you recommend at this point for professional use? I used to use Logic 8 on my MacBook Pro until it recently died, cant quite afford a Mac Pro but I have a nice beefy Q6600 Studio PC which is ideal for music work (runs Cubase fine in Windows). Would be nice to use Logic 9 in it for all my future work. Do you guys reccomend using Snow Leopard or am I better going with one of the Leopard destros? ninetto
Do a retail install of 10.5 and update to 10.5.8 This type of install has really become sooooo easy and sooo solid. I recommend BlackOSX's guide which you can find HERE Even real Macs have quirks in SL. Especially if you are dependent on 3rd party software, so why be first-on-your-block, with all the headaches? Your system looks fine for a retail install. good luck, ninetto Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/192425-overal-snow-leopard-stability/#findComment-1300463 Share on other sites
LukeMotion
Thanks but that guide appears to be specific for a gigabyte board, can it be applied to my asus board? me@home
Thanks but that guide appears to be specific for a gigabyte board, can it be applied to my asus board? your signature shows 10.6 running - how ? I have SL server running VERY well, it's running 24hrs. for 2-3 days a week. Don't need sleep (and that's what I never got working after 10.5.6 again on hack mac). BlackOSX has written a fine and easy guide - I used it too. The important things are: boot CD with "your" kexts and DSDT with your kexts in SL/E - never put in SL/S/L as we all used in Leopard and you're fine for some time Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/192425-overal-snow-leopard-stability/#findComment-1300999 Share on other sites
Allan C
My SL 10.6.1 suddenly hang after a few hours use. Then every thread died. I have to press reset button! But my 10.5.8 runs perfectly. ninetto
Thanks but that guide appears to be specific for a gigabyte board, can it be applied to my asus board? Sure. Use the blackosx guide for your board too. The basic procedure dealing with efi and where/how to install kexts is the most important and it's all there in the guide. You just might check on the specifics of the 965 chipset of your board. There are really just a few non-apple kexts, maybe 3 or 4 that you have to let efi load (or the 132-bootloader to install retail) The basic decision with retail-install is WHERE to install the EFI-bootloader. I decided use the extra hidden efi-partition method, since it is closer to vanilla-pure and update-safe... But installing efi on the install partition works fine too and is easier if you'd rather not deal with terminal commands. good luck, ninetto Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/192425-overal-snow-leopard-stability/#findComment-1301754 Share on other sites
