Hey guys,

I've been running 10.5.6 for some time now, and used to run an older version back in the day. Never have I got Vanilla working and I'd like to do a reinstall and get that working if I can.

I have tried previously and failed with kernel panics.

Here are my specs on my laptop, can anyone verify that it should or should not be able to be vanilla?

And just to clarify, I have to run vanilla right now to get 10.6 installed correct?

Yes, you can. But :) it depends on the methods used. If it's Boot132 method or its successors e.g. http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...=127330&hl= You should be able to do this even with P4 CPU. There are different options. So it may be successful undertaking. Though don't know about drivers. But this is another story.

No! In some cases it could make the process easier, but it is not a must-have.

Thanks for the info, it's appreciated! So I was able to install 10.5.7 Vanilla with absolutely no problems, and updated it to 10.5.8.

Given that worked well for me, I decided to go ahead and attempt to get 10.6 working. As per some of the tutorials out there (most of them are pretty simular) I restored the 10.6 image to another hard drive, and installed from there.

I keep getting a kernel panic though, and I am unsure where to start my troubleshooting. Any suggestions?

The question worth another topic. Sorry, I have no experience with Snow Leo yet. Still waiting for the appropriate kernel (my CPUs are not "vanilla ready") and kexts to come. I have a very stable 10.5.8 system and see no point in upgrading it to not yet stable version.

I'd recommend to stay with 10.5.8 till, say, December (at least).
