After doing a clean install of 10.4.6 (hot iso) with Intel SSE3 my Plantronics DSP-100 usb headset no is no longer recognized as an audio device.

It shows up in System Profile under USB like this

Plantronics headset:

Version: 2.00

Bus Power (mA): 500

Speed: Up to 12 Mb/sec

Manufacturer: Plantronics

Product ID: 0x0301

Serial Number: 00100-1211014400006-V040005b

Vendor ID: 0x047f

Oddly the volume and mute controls work. It just does not show up as a sound device in System Preferences - Sound.

This used to work fine in 10.4.4 Maxxuss.

When I did the install, I did not include the Sound Blaster USB patch from the customize menu.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the quick reply blkblt;

I actually solved it slightly diferently.

I decided to install the Sound Blaster USB Audio Support package. Since I had the hot iso I ran SoundBlaster.USB.Audio.Support.pkg from /System/Installation/Packages on the DVD.

All is happines now, well, except that I'm still looking for a video card that will support CI/QE on dual monitors and will also be DirectX 10 Compatible for a reasonable price, but that won't happen any time soon.

I had the same issue with my Plantronics DSP-400 - it was working fine in 10.4.4, but stopped working in 10.4.6.

Rather than install the Sound Blaster USB Audio Support package as I probably should have, I decided to drag over the kexts from 10.4.4 listed in blkblt's post:

AppleUSBAudio.kext

AppleUSBTopCase.kext

IOUSBFamily.kext

AppleUSBDisplays.kext (This was unchanged from 10.4.4, so I didn't replace it)

IOAudioFamily.kext

IOUSBMassStorageClass.kext (This was also unchanged, so I skipped it)

While this combination got my headset working, the old problem of the fan remaining on after system shutdown reappeared.

After restoring the newer version of IOUSBFamily.kext (2.4.6) from the 10.4.6 install, the headset works and the system powers down properly.

Long story short - it appears that you can get away with replacing the following three kexts from 10.4.4 to get your Plantronics headset working again after a 10.4.6 install:

AppleUSBAudio.kext (v2.0.2)

AppleUSBTopCase.kext (v1.3.0f1)

IOAudioFamily.kext (v1.5.6b2)

I didn't try to troubleshoot this any further, so perhaps this isn't the whole story. I did note that 10.4.6 installs the following versions:

AppleUSBAudio.kext (v2.0.4b2)

AppleUSBTopCase.kext (v1.4.1a1)

IOAudioFamily.kext (v1.5.6b1)
