Has anyone else installed snow leopard on their HP laptop successfully? I have a DV 9700t and I have a near perfect snow leopard install that has been easier to install than regular Leopard. I was also able to upgrade to 10.6.1 by using software update with no problems.

For the install, I loaded up iDeneb on a hard drive and used this guide for the install. It booted up with no problems the first try. The main problems that I know of are my trackpad and keyboard dont work (having to use a usb keyboard/mouse), audio isnt detected and neither is the battery. I read through this post and downloaded that users /extra/ folder and after some tweaking I have gotten mixed results with getting audio, the keyboard and mouse working. I got the audio working first, but when I got the keyboard and mouse working, the audio stopped. My track pad also seems to work for just a few minutes after boot then stop.

Known to work without installing something:

Full graphics support

Ethernet

Bluetooth

All 3 USB

Fully fictional sleep

Not tested yet:

Firewire

SD reader

HDMI, VGA or Svideo

Not working/not working fully:

Webcam was detected during user account setup, but no picture available.

Wireless; 4965 agn

Built-in keyboard

Trackpad

Audio with the alc 268 chip

Of course there still arnt drivers for the wireless. I'm about to buy one off ebay as soon as I figure out what the best would be.

Specs:

Model: HP DV9700t

My rig is a dv6780ep with leopard fully functional. With snow i'm having problems patching my dsdt...

How did you accomplish this????

Try this dsdt.aml and use Steven's post above for more information.

Hi guys, I have a dv9933CL very similar tothe above mentioned models. I have gotten to pretty stable and most hardware detection. I am having problems with Getting everything to work at the same time. I tried to parch my own DSDT and its gives 200+ errors. And I tried a couple different DSDTs and some support some stuff like audio dimming buttons etc and the other one supporst my 8600m gs. I itried copying the gfx0 parto of the working dsdt to the new one but it wont compile. I am very new to this whole DSDT stuff and is quite complicated sometimes. I had 1.5.8 working with netkas universal injector. But SL dosnt support such injectors that i know of. I am uploading both DSDTs the one with working GFX and the one with working audio and everything else. If anyone has any odeas of how to combine the 2 that would be awesome

I tried efi string with no luck so far. I tried to make my own and system profiler detected the right mem size and resolution but no QE/CI. and it showed like a 9800gt not my 8600m gs

Thanks!!!

Im also uploading the DSDT.dsl i tried to make combining my working HDA etc and GFX

Spos86,

1. I am new to dsdt too, I spend 2 week to compile my DSDT.aml and it's working for me very well.

If you have Chameleon-2 with Leopard 10.5, put my DSDT post above into Extra folder and then reboot it.

After that you used DSDT patcher guide to compile your own DSDT, it base on or update with your computer spec.

2. You can use EFIstudio 1.1 to select your video card device to create your kext for com.apple.Boot.plist

I have used this guide twice now to install snow leopard on my DV 9700t, and it worked both times. After running the program you download for it, all I have to do is install, and once it boots up I just need keyboard, mouse, sound, battery and video drivers.

For keyboard and mouse, I was successful with using AppleACPIPS2Nub.kext and VoodooPS2controller.kext from voodoo. I installed them using .kext helper. For video I just added an efi string to com.apple.boot.plist.

I still dont have sound and battery. I tried the VoodooHDA.kext and that didnt work. For battery, its somewhat detected fresh from the install. When I go to energy saver, I have options for battery and power adapter, but it shows current charge for battery is 0%, wont let me put the battery status in menu bar, and doesn't know when I'm running on battery.

Scratch the audio problem, I just got that working. I installed voodooHDA using kext helper, then removed AppleHDA.kext from system/library/extensions and it works now.

Dastan, since macs dont have a finger print reader with them, I highly doubt that will work.

Edit: What do I need to do to change my mac model from Mac Pro to a macbook pro? I've installed Voodoobattery.kext and I still cant get full battery support. Could part of the problem be that snow leopard thinks its running on a mac pro and thus shouldnt have a battery?

Hi, I am not exacly following your suggestions. I am currently running 10.6.1 and mostly works, except that with one dsdt i get sound and i am able to dimm my lcd while with the other one i get GFX and SLEEP which is awesome.

Now what your trying to say is that I should install a 10.5 on my computer, perhaps iatkos v7, and then try to repatch my dsdt using ur dsdt and Extra folder? Would you mind explaining why couldndt I just do that in SL? Does the dsdt patcher work based on the dsdt ur using? Like does it work on top of your kexts and dsdt or no matter what kexts, injectors, plists and dsdts the results are the same?

Thanks for your help

Hi,

I have dv6521eo* and have everything working except battery and webcam.

I've tried different "solutions" for battery i.e VoodoBattery.kext or similar but without any success.

Any solution yet?

Regards/NJ

To edit your mac model you need to modify your smbios.plist, the model memory type (18 DDR 19 is DDr2 and 20 is DDR) then you an also modify de fsb there and add a bogus serial number if you wish.

DSDT seems to be the way to go now days, with diff dsdts i have gotten everything to work from gfx to the buttons to sound and buttons. If anyone has good understanding or in depth info of how dsdt work i would really apiciated. I have been googling but info is scarse.

I am in desperate need of a DSDT patching and compiling tutorial!!! I been looking but cannot find a simple and straight forward tutorial to patching DSDT on my laptop. I have succesfully patched my GA-EP45T-UD3P but I cannot seem to patch my HP dv9933cl. Please anyone can tell me where can I find apropiate info or how to do it?

Whant about patching from windows to get a clear read of the Bios? I dont even understand the basics of DSDT!!!!

Help is apriciated, and I dont mind reading, just point me on the right direction

You can drop my DSDT.aml into extra folder with current OS and reboot it. After it system boot up, you run DSDT patcher to compile or patch your own spec.

Hope it working for you

Yes you have to patch and reflash the bios, its alla in all pretty simple procedure, YES RISKY, but if u do it right it works great. Its called a hardwere blacklist in the bios which u can disable hex editing 2 simple entrees in the bios, I currently have the f59 bios hacked. and a dell 1390 card. Works flawless. You will probably find patched bioses online anlready but if any hardware is diff, maybe same model but diff version or a letter at the end diff if u flash the wrong bios you will end up with a very nice and expensive BRICK. I recomd patching you own bios from HP

I followed the giude and it worked mavelously. Unfortunately, I also loaded Vista after to make it a dual-boot machine and that horked the whole install. I am going to start over, but I think there are some other issues. Becuase the install does not realize it is on a laptop. So I can not adjust the screen brightness (and it is very dim) and I get no warning concerning the battery. It just thinks that it is on power or something. I tried the changes noted above concerning the type of memory and it did not help. Any other ideas, to let the install now it is on a laptop and not a desktop? What changes might be needed to the boot program in order to effect that change? Thanks in advance.

I have snow leopard running on my dv9396ea.

victory.jpg

Specs:

Geforce GO7600 512mb dedicated (EFI string)

4gb RAM

Intel Core2Duo 2GHz

HDAudio (kext)

Trackpad/Keyboard (kext)

Bluetooth (working OTB)

SATA (kext)

But I still have some problems:

1) CMOS reset (I just can't get my DSDT compiled, always an error)

2) I can't make screenshots with the command + alt + 3 combo. I hear the photo sound but it doesn't put a file on my desktop (or on my clipboard when i hold the ctrl key)

I found a solution for this for osx 10.5 on this site, but can't get it working in osx 10.6.2

3) I cant get my display in sleep mode. Yes, I'm talking about my display. After 10mins the display goes in sleep, when i move the mouse it wakes up and I get these things:

displaysleep.jpg

displaysleep1.jpg

I think it is because of the EFI string (not a good method) but I just can't get any injector working for my geforce go7600 512mb. I tried NVInjector, NVInjectorGO, NVInjectorGO512 and NVEnabler (NVenabler was able to detect my card (without the NVDAResman.kext, but not able to change my resolution(dooh :hysterical: ), but with the NVDAResman.kext in the /S/L/E folder it wont boot. I got a 'flashing blue screen' (dark/light blue) after the -v boot.)

I'm going to bump this up again now that I have time to mess around with this more. I just wiped out my snow leopard drive to start over using a DSDT and /extras folder for a more clean install. I couldnt make a DSDT.aml file for some reason, so I'm just going to use Sok5's that he uploaded. The only problem is for some reason I can not get it to boot at all. Everytime I turn it on, I just get the blinky underscore which means no OS found or something of the sort. I've used about 5 different 'boot' files and none of them work. That 'boot' file in the root of the drive is the only file I need for the bootloader, right?

Has anyone else had any recent success with this?

silentkiller, I've never seen anything like that. It is a graphic of sleep mode issue though. I would work on getting the graphics working first though if I were you.

Hello,

I've been following this whole thread, and I have successfully installed Leopard 10.6.0 on my dv9700t. Graphics worked OOB, and I fixed sound with VoodooHDA.kext and removing AppleHDA.kext. I fixed the trackpad and keyboard with the VoodooPS2.kext posted in this thread.

Things that don't work:

Firewire

Battery

Internal Mic

Webcam

Wireless Networking

Things that do work:

USB

Wired Ethernet

Trackpad (multi-touch!)

Keyboard

Volume and mute buttons on the machine

Sleep, Shutdown

Does anyone know how to fix the battery or firewire problems? Having the internal mic would be nice too. I've given up on the rest of the "Does not work list", I can't find drivers anywhere.
