"PCI-Express not backward compatible with PCI and PCI-X

In comparison to PCI and PCI-X, PCI-Express is a newer standard with a different form factor. PCI-Express adapters are not backward compatible to PCI or PCI-X. Not only are the data rates on PCI-Express different from PCI/PCI-X, but PCI-Express uses serial data transfers versus PCI/PCI-X transferring its data in a parallel fashion. For these reasons, a PCI-Express type motherboard connector (or "slot") is physically different from a PCI or PCI-X type connector. Therefore a PCI-Express adapter will not physically fit in a PCI or PCI-X slot, and vice-versa. This is true regardless of the adapter card's manufacturer.

M-Audio actively investigates new technologies including PCI-Express. Please visit the M-Audio website for information about upcoming PCI-Express releases."

It will have consequences on limited probability of installing standart pci soudcards on new quad x86 apple machines when they will be out, or (like me) to make pci souncards working on a PC with osx86 unibin driver... (M-audio delta serie, STaudio dsp24 - cport, etc....)

Better buy a firewire/usb2 soudcard or wainting to new pci-express souncards (if your MB have pci-express slots) ????

Your info/meaning about it are welcome.

The hardware manufacters will not invest for now in PCI express adpters, as they have said before, this is a new technology and they will wait for it to settle and consolidate.

I am sure ther gona be pioneers, but, i would recomend USB2/firewire 400 for sound card, more if its a PROI one.

Hi everyone! I'm also own a Delta1010LT and it's not working with osx86 10.4.7. Even if I install the driver from maudio's site... is it really a dead end?

I've got ecs 865PE motherboard, but I'm buying an Asus P5B...

Any suggestion?

Thank you

Roberto
