G*Rock
okay...since my last post on this topic was COMPLETELY ignored maybe someone can help me with this less complicated question. what OSx86 installation would ANYBODY suggest for the following: Computer specs: Toshiba Satellite P-305D S8900 laptop AMD Turion X2 64 AMD M780V chipset ATI Radeon 3100 series Atheros AR9281 built-in wifi adapter Marvell Yukon 88E8040T Ethernet adapter 4GB Ram Hitachi ATA HDD if more info needed please say so. vilpostus
Hash!!! It's a great mega secret! http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=181076 http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=137007 Don't forget to customize the install. You need a different kernel e.g. voodoo. Vanilla kernel will not work with AMD CPUs. Definitely need a SATA controller driver (most likely Nforce). Do not install any VGA or Ethernet/WiFi drivers. Better do it later. Also some ACPIPlatfrom fixes may be needed. Consider also ASMBIOS patches corresponding to you RAM speed. Don't forget to check the BIOS settings. Always use -v boot flag then installing to figure out the problems. Use some other boot flags if any problems with boot. e.g. -f -s cpus=1 busratio=20 And the final thing - be patient. Answering posts is not essential. So don't blame anyone. G*Rock
1. i do apologize for my impatience. i was just getting irritated with the install not working. i kept asking questions on this site and others and i felt as though i was being ignored. 2. i did install the voodoo kernel (9.7.0 to be exact) is that cool? 3. i did customize the install but didnt know about the VGA and ethernet/wifi rule ill try that 4. how do i install these ACPIPlatfrom fixes and ASMBIOS patches of which you speak? before or after install? 5. how do you install SATA controller driver and when? 6. what am i looking for in BIOS? vilpostus
2 It may help if you face a kernel panic. Boot with -v voodoo970 boot flag. 4 This things usually are selected during installation in customize section. Just take a closer look at available options. Some distro do not have such options. Contents may vary. Also may be installed later. 5 Differently from Windows installation, OS X installation distros (not the retail OS X install disk) have additional drivers including disk controllers drivers. So if the install is successful but the system is not booting (still waiting for the root device problem), then you need to install it manually from the same install disk. On how see this link i h a c k i n t o s h.com/2009/05/still-waiting-for-root-device/ (remove spaces). If you get the same error then trying to boot to install disk (trying to install it), then you need a different distro. 6 Depends on the problem faced (if any). If it's "still waiting for the root device problem" then ACHI mode on/off. If it's memory related problem, then memory management features. Settings may very from distro to distro and from MB to MB. In general may check this i h a c k i n t o s h.com/2009/05/hackintosh-reboots-constantly-after-osx86-install/ (remove spaces). Now ALWAYS USE -V BOOT FLAG THEN INSTALLING OS X. Cos the picture you have posted, may mean many different problems. To see the actual problem the -v flag is needed. flexer
Hi G*rock, I suggest you to download a kalyway 10.5.2 release and try to install the system following the Das_Human reccomendation. I suggest you this release because I think it was the better for first installation. After installed and obtained a working system, read some usefull post on the forum and then go to update to 10.5.8 via "iDeneb 10.5.8 combo update" release. ciao Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/185114-which-osx86-installation-should-i-use/#findComment-1272726 Share on other sites
G*Rock
alright ill try flexer's idea if I cant get this to work. all of the above allowed me to boot into mac when i didnt install a PS/2 driver. the mac screen asked me to plug in a keyboard. well i dont have a PS/2 port for a keyboard on my laptop. and i dont have a usb keyboard either. i think the problem lies between the ACPI drivers. i have two one is x86 ACPI and the other is plain ol ACPI driver. both say not to install voodooPS/2, to use ApplePS/2 instead. but if i install either one when i boot up mac it freezes. How do i fix this? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/185114-which-osx86-installation-should-i-use/#findComment-1273055 Share on other sites
