Hi all,

I'd like to upgrade my current Gigabyte socket 478 motherboard to support the following while running OS X:

1) PCI-Express (MSI RX1600 TD256E 256mb) card to support Quartz and Core Image

2) Support for any resolution to support 1920x1200 (Apple Cinema Display 23inch)

3) Sound working

4) Network working

5) Firewire working

Has anyone been able to accomplish these? What would be the best motherboard replacement that would support PCI Express as well as my P4 socket 478? - does anyone have any suggestions so I won't have to buy another CPU - I currently have a socket 478 P4.

This sounds like a video card driver issue, as a change in motherboards will not change the situation.

You can check the driver forum to figure out if either Omni's or NP_'s drivers support that resolution on DVI out.

Otherwise, you could consider doing it with an ADD2-N card on GMA motherboard, but I do not think any of those are socket 478.

Cool - well, the video card I have now is an ATI brand Radeon 9550 - however it is supposed to support Core Image and Quartz Extreme - however System Profiler says it does not.

Also, the max resolution is 1280x1024 - on the box, however, it says that 1920x1200 should be supported.

I'm just trying to figure out the cheapest way to build a system that supports my Cinema Display as well as Quartz and Core Image.
