ATI MOBILITY RADEON X700 not working with Mac OS X Leopard 10.5.2

Hey guys! This is my first topic. I'm new to this site, so I'm trying to be as good as possible.

Okay, so I have an Acer Aspire 1694WLMi laptop, running Mac OS X 10.5.2 (iAtkos). It's pretty slow since it doesn't have the best specs, but it runs.

Everything works (sound, Wi-Fi, etc...) but the video drivers don't work. I can only get 1024x768 working and I need 1280x800, which is the native resolution for my laptop. My graphics card is an ATI MOBILITY RADEON X700 with 128MB VRAM. I tried installing Callisto but when I try setting the native resolution the screen has a weird effect and everything is flickering. I tried changing the refresh rate and restarting the computer, still flickering, and I need to set the resolution back to 1024x768 and restart to stop that effect. Don't tell me to install other OSx86 distros because I can't: for example stuff like iPC 10.5.6, iDeneb, iAtkos v7, Kalyway, do not work. Leo4all works instead but it's basically the same as iAtkos, there are no differences and I get the same problem.

So if you can please provide me with some display drivers that work on my Acer, that would be really appreciated. Thank you!

Hey there... Did you get around the Flickering problem yet? I am yet to find a working driver for ATI Radeon Mobility x700. If you got it working. Please let me know. Thanks

No I didn't get it working.

Anyway, I got a MacBook Pro now, but I still want to fix this just for the hell of it!

And BTW on that laptop I now have 10.4.8. I put Leopard on another machine (see signature). I tried Callisto but it gives me a kernel panic on a flickering screen. I can deal with 1280x1024 with QE/CI on my external monitor, but I'd still like if someone helped me get 1280x800 on my laptop display. To put QE/CI I used the koverg patch.

I have 10.5.7 iAtkos version installed on ASUS A7v series. I can see that the graphics is much better when I change to the 1440x900 resolution, but because of the flicker the screen splits up into two. I am assuming its the dot clock value and I am still trying to figure how and what I have to edit to change the dotclock value for the drivers.

Hi Guys!

I just managed to install Mac OS X 10.5.2 (Leo4All) on my Acer Ferrari 4000 Laptop.

I tried all the other distros out there, iDeneb, iAtkos, #####, but they did not start the installer, and Kalyway 10.5.2 installed fine but could not boot at all. Instead Leo4All v2 worked perfectly for my Acer Ferrari 4000. So here are my specs:

I do have also the graphic card ATI Radeon x700 mobility to twinkle for work cause it's not working for me either. Also another problem with me is that the Dock does not appear, and the clock on the right-top corner do not appear. Booting takes a lot of time after passed the apple logo. I can logically connect this problem with the system trying to figure out the graphic card driver. What is strange is that right now in the System Profiler it shows me the information that I do have an ATI Radeon x700 Mobility, but instead of 128MB VRAM it shows 512MB VRAM, which is incorrect. It also does not give any info about the monitor, although it is a laptop screen.

I need to get to the native resolution which is 1680x1050 for my Acer Ferrari 4000 laptop.

Now I have a question. At home I have an iMac that has an ATI RadeonHD2400 hardware and driver, with 128MB VRAM total, and the screen is running on native resolution of 1680x1050x32 exactly the same as my Acer Ferrari 4000. Will replacing the driver of the Acer laptop with that of the iMac fix mine and hopefully your problems with the graphic card? I mean, the hardware seems with the same characteristics. Am I right with this assumption?

:)

Thanks you for any help in advance,

Drini.

I don't know. Try it, maybe it will work.

Anyway, I do not care about getting this solved anymore. Again, I got a MacBook Pro. But most importantly, that PC is now broken (the power circuits broke, so it's still working but it can't be powered on anymore). I can take it to a store to fix it but I'm not bothering to do that.
