After my installation of iLife'06 my on-board soundcard stopped working....Its an AC'97 on-board sound-chip on my Asus P4C800-E Deluxe motherboard. Everything used to be running top-notch.

I decided to look into my extensions and the following (strange) appears:

AppleAC97Audio

Dependencies: Incomplete

Dependency Errors:

com.apple.iokit.IOAudioFamily: No valid version of this dependency can be found

Integrity: Kext has no receipt

AppleAC97AudioIntelICH

Dependencies: Incomplete

Dependency Errors:

com.apple.driver.AppleAC97Audio: No valid version of this dependency can be found

com.apple.iokit.IOPCIFamily: No valid version of this dependency can be found

Integrity: Kext has no receipt

AppleAC97CodecAD198x

Dependencies: Incomplete

Dependency Errors:

com.apple.driver.AppleAC97Audio: No valid version of this dependency can be found

Integrity: Kext has no receipt

It seems that some kext's are not propperly loaded, but I find this strange since before I installed iLife'06 everything used to run ok.

Somebody encountered the same problem?? And maybe some one knows a sollution to this problem.

Thanks in advance.

Try repairing your permissions. To do this, open Disk Utility in the Utilities folder. Then click your hard drive and click repair permissions.

No dice. It repaired printer permissions and a couple of other things. I even did an reinstall of the OS with no effect. Everything works great until the iLife'06 install. under AudioMIDI utility its shows no output supported even though in the pull down tabs of that same tool it shows AC'97 PCM and SPDIF out??????

After more experimenting and searching I found the answer is two fold:

1. change the settings in the Audio MIDI setup utility from 6 ch to 2 ch speaker output

2. Physically switch the speaker cable in the back from output to line in. The GB install somehow switches the input and output??? Strange but true

appleriffic's post does have the answer but it is missing a step. The first thing you need to do is in Audio MIDI Setup on the left hand side just above the Audio Input Settings section there is a drop down menu labeled "Properties For:", in my setup there were two AC97 Audio (PCM) entries. Select the other one and the the Input properties go away and then the Output properties come back. From here follow appleriffic's instructions.
