AdeptHavok
Hello all, I have a MSI 790GX-G65 motherboard, with a AMD Phenom II X4 processor, 4GB of DDR3 RAM, other standard hardware elements and a 1TB SAMSUNG SATA hard drive I've installed OSx86 before on one my old (and IDE controlled) machines (Dell Dimension 2400) with almost no problems with installation. However when I launch OSx86 installation, I go through the standard procedures although when I get to the Installation Destination screen, none of my storage devices show. I've even tried plugging in an 120GB external hard drive (that was detected for installation on my old machine) and even that's not showing. I've Googled plenty for a solution to this problem with no luck, hopefully you guys could point me in the right direction. vilpostus
First of all it's AMD. So it is by itself a problem. I guess there is no appropriate driver for the on-board SATA controller. You can boot but the installer can't detect the SATA controller properly. So try another distro (newer one), or another installation method (e.g. http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...=127330&hl= ) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/184310-osx86-wont-detect-any-of-my-storage-devices/#findComment-1253172 Share on other sites

I used iAtkos v7 with AMD Phenom and had to enable AHCI & ACPI in my bios to get it working. By the way, can you include your specs? So you think a newer distro would include fixes for this? Which distro would you recommend? I've attempted using both iPC OSx86 10.5.6 Universal PPF5 Final and iDeneb 1.4 (w/ OS X 10.5.6). vilpostus
It depends on the SATA controller installed on board. If it's a ICH5, then it should be an older distro, like Kalyway 10.5.1, if it's a ICH10, than you need a newest distro. I gave an example with ICHx, but it is valid only for Intel based motherboards. But anyway, you can more or less guess which will be better. Just compare the on-board SATA controller version with corresponding Intel version. Sorry but I can't give you a direct answer - I'm all on Intel :censored2: It may also be kernel related issue. On working systems, if the kernel version and the System.kext in Extensions folder doesn't match, the USB devices doesn't mount. Though an USB related kexts problem may also happen... AdeptHavok
So the problem here is with the distro communicating with my board's SATA controller? Both distro's I've used are pretty new, right? So I should try the older Kalyway one you suggested, correct?
