calle
Hi! Thanks to digital_dreamer's X58 Mobo Patch Installer I was able to install Mac OS X 10.6 on my computer, and it runs pretty good. There's a few issues that I'd like to clear up though; 1. I've got no audio; that is, no devices are listed in the sound preferences. After some searching around I found a possible solution by aschar which I did try to follow to the point, but with my little knowledge about kexts and how they work, I wasn't able to fix anything when I recieved an error saying something like "sound assertion failed in /SourceCache/AppleHDA/[...]". So as far as the sound goes, I'm back to scratch. 2. My DDR3 memory registers at 1333MHz, when they're actually at 2000MHz. This isn't a big deal for me, but I suppose the system would perform better if it actually made use of the memory capabilities. This is my hardware setup: Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD5 CPU: Intel Core i7 920 @ 2,66Ghz RAM: Mushkin DDR3 6GB extreme Performance (XP3-16000 3x2048MB 2000Mhz) Graphics: ASUS Radeon HD4870 1024MB GDDR5 PCIe 2.0 HDD: Hitachi Deskstar 7K1000.B 1TB SATA2 I'd be very happy to get some help on this. Thanks in advance, and thanks for everything else that I've learned from this community Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/183182-sl-install-success-on-x58-mobo-yet-some-problems/ Share on other sites

dacheat
*Bump* My ASUS P6T booted into the 64-bit kernel by default. Some of the kext's may not work with the 64-bit kernel.. you may need to pass -32 at boot time. I'm back to 10.5.8 for now. Sound not working and it did not feel quite as stable. I'm gonna wait a few months. calle
I've ordered a USB audio adapter, hoping it will make the difference. Everything else works good for me so far. imacken
I'm sure you've tried this already, but I solved my sound problem by installing the 64-bit VoodooHDA driver using Kext Helper. calle
Actually, I haven't tried that, but when I've installed new kexts earlier and they wouldn't work, I never really figured out how to reverse everything. So if I can just get the hints on how to undo a kext change, I might actually try the 64-bit VoodooHDA Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/183182-sl-install-success-on-x58-mobo-yet-some-problems/#findComment-1267349 Share on other sites
imacken
Have you used Kext Helper? Just drop the 64-bit VoodooHDA.kext file into the KH icon and it will do the rest. (Make sure it's the 64-bit Voodoo that you use!) calle
I just made an attempt, so I downloaded the most recent .zip from the top post in this topic: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=175372 and dropped the .kext into Kext helper, made an easy install and rebooted. The VoodooHDA.kext shows up in System profiler (extensions), but there are still no audio devices Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/183182-sl-install-success-on-x58-mobo-yet-some-problems/#findComment-1267460 Share on other sites

calle
Yep, the USB audio adapter from Behringer definitely made things good. mattrb4
Yep, the USB audio adapter from Behringer definitely made things good. My system is now complete dude, dont use the usb audio adapter. That is simply wrong. You need to understand, DD's script requires you to actively setup your system with his script folders. In 10.6 kexts folder, Put whatever is in the sound folder the repository folder. Take the legacy kexts out of the repository in the sound folder. Then go to your Extra/Stored_Kexts folder and remove everything so old kexts dont conflict. Then open the DD script and tell it to take the scripts kexts and put it in your installation. Done. DONT USE YOUR USB ADAPTER. I have your motherboard and it will work fine. The default sound drivers did not work for me either. You need to switch them with the legacy kexts. Here is where the kexts are \Downloads\X58_Mobo_Patch_Installer\Kexts_10.6\_Audio\_repository Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/183182-sl-install-success-on-x58-mobo-yet-some-problems/#findComment-1269579 Share on other sites
