Sapphire 4870 2GB black&white garbage on screen after boot

I'm having a weird issue with my Sapphire 4870 Vapor-X 2GB...

When I originally installed my hackintosh with iDeneb 1.4, the first time the computer booted up the display worked fine - all resolutions, QE etc worked. At the second boot, the display adapter developed a symptom where after boot, when the display initialized, instead of getting the login screen, I got random black and white garbage on screen. I could see some parts of the B&W junk move on screen when I move the mouse, so the machine hadn't crashed.

Unfortunately I didn't document which exact combination of 4870 drivers I mashed up together but I did manage to bring the system back up by combining 4870 drivers from various sources so my 10.5.7 installation works fine. When upgrading to 10.5.8 the computer again developed the same symptoms until I replaced the new ATI drivers with the old ones.

Now, when trying to go to Snow Leopard, I'm again having the exact same issue. If I delete all ATI drivers, the display "works" but obviously at low resolution and no acceleration. If I put the ATI drivers back in place, I get the B&W garbage on screen.

It seems like the problem is some tiny issue with initializing the screen buffer (or something) but I can't figure out how to fix it. Netkas' drivers don't seem to help and I haven't been able to create an EFI string that'd make a difference.

Anyone have ideas or tips?

Yep. Same card. Same problems under Leopard. I used the "A simple guide to..." and everything was fine under Leopard. I also had a mash-up but for the most part... I used the above and had to delete ATY_Motmot.kext from one of the kext. I also deleted the ATI drivers and I don't think I use natit.kext

could you do me a favor and post (attach) all the kexts, you used to get your 10.5.8 working with resolution change, QE and QI?

thanks in advance!

hey

sorry for posting again but this is important:

I found a well-working solution for our problems with SAPPHIRE 4870 2 GB in SNOW LEOPARD.

just remove all graphic-related kexts and put EVOenabler.kext in your system dir - update boot caches and enjoy!

good luck!

Virus X,

I'm building my first hackintosh and would like to get the same graphics card as you. Is this solution 100%. Can you have multiple resolutions and dual displays with the EVOenabler.kext? please let me know,

thanks,
