I need help upgrading From iPC 10.5.6 to 10.5.8

*Sigh* I try not to ask for help, but I'm getting a headache with this one. I've searched, but haven't found anything that really fits what I'm looking for.. Maybe I'm using the wrong keywords, but whatever the reason I'm at wits end, so I decided to ask for a little help. I'll try and be as detailed as possible.

 

I'm running iPC 10.5.6 (Following these instructions)

 

I did not use the Audio Driver from that set-up as I have SoundBlaster Live on my PC, which I couldn't find a working driver, so I'm using my M-Audio MobilePre USB Pre Amp for Audio.

 

Additional drivers I used on install:

- Intel PRO/100 VE Network Connection

- nVidia 512MB (Darwin I think, I can't remember which one it was exactly, but I tried the nVidiaInject & that one didn't work, so I selected the other one on the iPC extras. I'm pretty sure it was Darwin.)

Ahh, one other thing that really isn't that important, but I'd like to know if possible.. When I first partitioned out some space for Mac, I didn't give it that much because I was only curious to see if I could get it to work, now that I actually have it working I want to be able to add more space to it. Is there any possible way I can accomplish this without erasing the current information on it?

Sorry, I don't get the point of you topic? What is your question? About audio driver or what?

If it's about audio driver, than try KxAudioDriver http://www.driverheaven.net/mac-os-x-driver/

If it's about some different point, make it clear...

Yes it is. Use GPartedLIVEcd http://gparted.sourceforge.net/livecd.php

Why don't you just try backing up your important files and just installing the new version?

 

I tried installing the newer version before on one of my earlier installs, but it just froze when it was installing so I had to re-install. That's what has prevented me from doing again.

 

All I've been able to find is that it has to do with the fact that I'm not running the Vanilla kernal & that there were some extra steps I'd have to take in order to upgrade correctly.

So, I don't know if this is what you're looking for, but I just upgraded iPC 10.5.6 to 10.5.8 last night. At first, I tried upgrading to 10.5.7 using this guide: http://www.insanelymac.com/2009/05/update-...m-1056-to-1057/

 

That worked. Then, I tried upgrading to 10.5.8 using this guide: http://www.insanelymac.com/2009/08/update-...osh-osx86-1058/

 

That didn't work. I messed up my whole install; couldn't boot the system.

 

So, I decided to try this: I reinstalled 10.5.6 again, and then downloaded the COMBO update (Around 760MB in size, I believe), and installed using the directions from this guide: http://www.insanelymac.com/2009/08/update-...osh-osx86-1058/

 

I installed the AppleDecrypt.kext from that guide, and the disable.kext and the dsmos.kext from this guide: http://www.insanelymac.com/2009/08/update-...osh-osx86-1058/

 

Then, I did the whole terminal thing from the 10.5.7 guide, and rebooted, and was met with a fully working 10.5.8 installation. Hope that helps! :)

And did you try to take those steps?

 

I would have if I knew what they were.. There was only a mention that you'd have to actually take extra steps, but the poster never went into detail.

 

Anyway, nosushi4you, your links were dead =/

 

I figured out that your links are supposed to be a different site but they seemed to have blocked that website from being linked. I figured it out though, thanks! Going to try them out.

Mkay, that worked. I was able to update successfully. However my display is distorted, I figure it's something to do with my video driver, so I'll try and install a different one to see if I get results. Thanks for the links.

 

Can't see why they'd block out a website that actually gives working results.

So how did you upgrade? One i made the comboupdate from 10.5.6 to 10.5.7 but i got kernel panic (even with -s).

NVM... I figured it out it's ( i hack in tosh ) (without the spaces) not insanelymac. Will try this soon and see if this method works for me too.

I've installed iPC 10.5.6 just like you guys and then followed the instructions from the same article.

While installing the 10.5.8 update, it said it installed from a corrupt source. So I downloaded it again, rebooted and was greeted with a grey loading screen that never did anything.

 

Is there a way of getting myself out of this hole or should I reinstall 10.5.6 once again?

The last 3 links are all the same? They all end with:

Are you sure you weren't using the same guide the whole time?

I could get it installed up to 10.5.7 using these steps on my Dell XPS 420:

 

  1. 1. Install iPC Leopard 10.5.6 using custom kexts for your machine
  2. 2. Followed this guide: w w w .i h a c k i n t o s h . c o m/2009/08/update-hackintosh-osx86-1058/
  3. 3. Except the Disabler.kext & dsmos.kext gave me errors after installing them, so I removed them
  4. 4. Reboot
  5. 5. Backup using this guide: w w w . i h a c k i n t o s h . c o m/2009/05/how-to-back-up-restore-your-kexts-before-osx86-upgrades/
  6. 6. Download the 10.5.7 Delta Update and install it
  7. 7. Reboot

 

Voila! 10.5.7, but that guide in Step 2 didn't work when I tried it again to upgrade from 10.5.7 to 10.5.8

 

In essence, Step 3 probably isn't even needed either, so try not even installing those kexts.
