Multimedia Instruction: MMX, SSE, SSE2, SSE3, 3DNOW! Professional

volatage: 1.35/1.4V

Hyper transport suport: YES

Operating Frequency: 2.0

FSB: **** unknow

INTEL:

Pentium D 805

LGA 775

Smithfield

Dual-Core

Operating Frequency: 2.66GHz

FSB: 533MHz

L1 Cache: 24KB+32KB

L2 Cache: 2 x 1MB

Process Type: 90 nm

I have the same AMD...3200+ Venice core...e3 rev I think. Anyway, it's super overclockable if you're into that. Either way, the Pentium would do you better likely, since it's dual core.

A slightly different summation here...my PIV 3ghz that has hyperthreading is almost directly on par with the speeds I get from the 3200+ at stock. The only difference is that the Pentium chokes less on a full load due to the hyperthreading. This makes a big difference when you're running big resource heavy stuff. For normal everyday use though, the differences are insignificant enough to be irrelevant performance wise.

The Pentium D 805 would kill a 3200 Venice if the apps and os is written to take advantage of the extra core (Multi Threading) kind like what intel does in the P4 with Hyper Threading, BTW just to let you know the 805 does not have HyperThreading or VT virtualization Extensions the latter is a nice Extra and should improve OS Speed in Parralles (Running XP near Native Spped inside OSX).

And i think the Pentium D or P4 whatever you choose would be more compatible and less of a pain in the A** than the AMD in OS X now and maybe in the Future when 10.5 is Released.

So Out of them I would Pick the Pentium D 805 and Crank it up to 3.6 + Ghz

There was a recent article about the Yonah which declared it the new best overclocking chip over the previous AMD rival..

I believe they were able to overclock the chip up to 4.1Ghz without any additional cooling.

The way they did it may be a little different from other overclocking procedures..

I've got a Pentium D 820, Athlon 64 3000+, and Opteron 144. The Pentium D is the slowest out of all of them. If software was written to take advantage of the dual core, it would help, but I don't think it's going to be faster than an AMD 64 chip. Intel's new Yonah cores have been proven to be faster than the AMD chips though.
