    Boot camp questions

I dont know if anyone has had any success with aftermarket boot loaders (partition magic, lilo, grub, etc) with those you can either create a boot partition at the beginning of the disk (1MB), or install it in the master boot record. If you do a forum search for chain0, im sure you could find information on configuring the windows boot kernel to support booting to macosx. good luck.

    Terminal Help Please!

vi is easy.. you just need to get past a simple principle that is recognizing the difference between command and edit mode. needless to say there are many ways to get around and edit. to do what you want you only need to know very few. vi <filename> <use arrow keys to move you where you want to begin to edit> <H,J,K,L are the original movement keys in command mode> once you are at the beginning of what you want to edit, type i. this will put you into edit mode at the current cursor location. type in what you want. press <escape> to go back into command mode hit <x> to remove the old information you dont want.. this will remove text in front of the cursor or behind the cursor if there is none on the current line. after you are done editing, press <escape> again just to make sure you are in command mode. then type :w the colon ":" basically tells vi you want to perform a function. :w will save the file with the current filename. if it wont let you save the file by the same name for some reason, ":w filename" will save the file to whatever filename you provide. you can later move the file form the command line with mv. vi is the princess of unix text editors. very graceful and efficient and not bloated like the others. once yoju are comfortable with it, you cna perform operations much faster than with just about any other text editor good luck

    Boot camp questions

the whole point of bootcamp was to allow you to install windows on apple hardware with thier hardware (protection). since generic intel machines don't have this protection, you dont need bootcmap to boot both windows and macosx. you can do so using a normal boot manager or various boot hacks which are covered in various threads in this forum.

    AMD vs INTEL

There was a recent article about the Yonah which declared it the new best overclocking chip over the previous AMD rival.. I believe they were able to overclock the chip up to 4.1Ghz without any additional cooling. The way they did it may be a little different from other overclocking procedures.. http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/2006/05/1..._on_the_desktop

    Partitions Please Help Me

search for hirens boot cd.. im not sure where to find it.. i got a copy from a friend. it contains many utilities for partition management. and yes... I am pretty sure that at least one of the utilities can safely resize an hfs/hfs+ partition. http://homepage.ntlworld.com/hiren.thanki/bootcd.html

Unless Microsoft has magically started to support HFS+ partition, you will not be able to see it from windows (any version) you can read fat32 partitions from osx86. I haventplayed around with it.. so not sure if the partitions can be mounted writeable.
  11. How long have you been working for apple?

    Callisto Technical Discussion

Here is my status on 003. Chipset Model: Radeon Mobility 9600/9700 (M10/M11) NP Type: Display Bus: PCI VRAM (Total): 64 MB Vendor: ATI (0x1002) Device ID: 0x4e50 Revision ID: 0x0000 Displays: Color LCD: Resolution: 1400 x 1050 @ 60 Hz Depth: 32-bit Color Core Image: Supported Main Display: Yes Mirror: Off Online: Yes Quartz Extreme: Supported IBM thinkpad t42 1400x1050 Resolution. Installed callisto 003. on reboot, it works perfectly for me.. no problems with normal display. all resolutions now work. using omni faq #11, enabled the QE in the ATIRadeon9700GA.plugin. rebooted. magic.. QE and CI is supported and working. Im very happy. only one extremely bad side effect of the QE enabling. When moving windows around, the redraw within the window fails and the the background texture appears jumbled in the application window. using desktop manager and switching to another virtual screen and back fixes the problem until the windows are moved again. Thanks and keep up the good work. Hopefully this description will help you determine if this is a problem in your driver and track it down.
  13. i already have my laptop. why do i need to spend more money on a laptop with roughly the same cpu, memory and lower end accoutremens. macosx doesnt support everything i need to do with a computer. i run all variants of operating systems. why do i wan tto spend more money on an apple branded box just so that i can install windows, unix, macos, etc on it. hopefully apple will see the light.. stop trying to prevent people from installing the system on non-apple hardware. if not, as much as i like it.. i can live without it if it came down to it. they are only shooting themselves in the foot. they dont even have to officially support non-apple hardware for it to work to thier benefit. just my $0.02

    Universal Requests?

i have desktop manager running fine on 10.4.5.. if you have QE supported on your card, youll get the spiffy effect.. if not, youll just get a screen change. the 0.5.2 on the darwinports site does not work.. but the 0.5.3 version on the homepage does work. http://desktopmanager.berlios.de/ also the 0.6 version works, but is a bit more flaky. good luck and have fun.
