J.B
hi insanely mac forums, i am fairly new to all this but now have a decent amount of experience in the whole OSx86 thing, however, i still have one or two problems that i haven't been able to solve, first though, my specs: Gigabyte GA-81945GZME-RH Intel Core 2 Duo 1.6 Ghz E6400 NVIDIA 9500GT 1GB DDR2 4GB RAM DDR2 LG DVD burner An older CD/DVD reader only (can't remember brand) X2 Western Digital 250GB HDD (WD Caviar/WD2500KS) Vanilla Kernel installation I have a Kalyway 10.5.1 Installation on my second HD, and a Windows XP SP3 on my first, i but using grub bootloader installated on my windows partition and to boot OSX i have grub point to a small ext2 partition on my OSX HD with EFI "boot_v9" and "Boot_v10.1" i can reset the grub command to use either one, they both do a similar thing, i currently use v9. (if anyone wants help with this method just ask) OSX boots fine, but: it can't see my older DVD reader a USB card i added in that wroks with windows (belkin i think) when i boot into the kalyway install disc, i can't make a .dmg backup of OSX, but time machine backing up to my externel HD works, but i would prefer an image MOST IMPORTANTLY: i can't update it! i currently have 10.5.1, to install my 9500GT drivers i need to have 10.5.5. i thought i would use a patched combo update to get there, and then somehow get to 10.5.8. Safe mode doesn't work either i used this: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...c=109102&hl=. i have a different problem now, look at post #4 please i remember seeing something about a DSDT patch here: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...mp;start=0%2520 and i now have a DSDT.aml floating around i my user folder, i don't think i finished it installation though, so i don't know if it affects anything. i can't read the text fast enough on startup after ive tried updating and i've use -v, but there are 2 yellow lines that stand out to you, one is something like "can't find IntelAppleCPUpowermanagement.kext" (something ive heard there have been problems with) and i can't remember the other one Thanks for reading, i will post any more problems should they arise, hope you can help me! 3ng1and
Honestly, the first thing I would probably do is download a newer version such as iAtkos v7. I recently installed it on my desktop, and was able to update to 10.5.8 without any problems. Secondly, in regards to your cd/dvd reader, it sounds like you need to install an IDE driver. I was able to find one for my P5Q Turbo, so I assume you can install one off of the setup disk to see if it fixes your problems. Anyways, by atleast installing a new distro, and getting past the whole 10.5.5 thing you should be running almost perfectly. that and it will only take you maybe an hour to download, vs the hours you will spend trying to resolve this issue Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/180430-need-help-with-unsolved-bugs-in-my-osx86-installation/#findComment-1229198 Share on other sites
J.B
thanks for the reply, i will look around for an IDE driver i would get a newer distro, but i have used up mostof my bandwidth allowance and would prefer not to use it all again next month, i'm open to other suggestions but i will keep it in mind Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/180430-need-help-with-unsolved-bugs-in-my-osx86-installation/#findComment-1229202 Share on other sites
J.B
the problem has changed slightly now, i was able to update to 10.5.5 succesfully using this method but using the 10.5.5 combo update instead now, it works, but i can only boot into safe mode, when i try normal mode it says its "starting dsmos done ???? MACH reboot" and it freezes there, also in safe mode, if i click restart it freezes, on the spinning loading circle ok, so i tried fix it and i added a few new kexts and now it has completely jammed after the lines: continuing done MACH Reboot and it just hangs there, really getting desparate now! there is also a line saying: CheckSleepCapability - OHCI controller will be unloaded across sleep" that appears twice, one after the other at the end, just before the continuing message anyone got any ideas? thanks in advance Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/180430-need-help-with-unsolved-bugs-in-my-osx86-installation/#findComment-1229778 Share on other sites
