I have everything else going on this comp, but the four cores, (q6600) I was told I need to modify my DSDT, I downloaded the patcher, and the non gui version of the patcher, however I have no clue what to do next.

Any tips would help, I just want to be done with this.

Thanks

You don't need to do anything else, just drop it in /Extra if you're using Chameleon 2.0 or at root if you're using an older DSDT patch-capable bootloader for some reason.

There is next to no reason to use a patched BIOS.

BIOS patching = DSDT patching. It's the same thing that you patch and therefore the end result is the same.

See: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...mp;#entry804822

The only difference between the two is that instead of reading the DSDT tables from the BIOS, the OS reads them as served by the bootloader.

It's not a new thing, Linux users have been l33t with their DSDT tables for ages.

DSDT.aml is patched and present in /Extra...? Make sure it is named DSDT.aml and not dsdt.aml.

Open Terminal, type

sysctl machdep

Is the CPU detected correctly?

I just changed the name of DSDT.aml and am rebooted, but no luck still.

checked sysctl machdep though, and it came up with 4 cores, correct branding and processor speeds/cache/fsb

Could there be anything in my bios that is getting in the way? settings that is....

Thanks again for your help.

Maybe. Post a screenshot of your BIOS' CPU configuration page.

Download a pdf copy of your motherboard manual and find it there, then use command+shift+4 to grab the image.

Open Activity Monitor (just type it in Spotlight) and click the CPU button at the bottom.

Do you see four cores active there?

I will post some pictures of the bios, and I checked the spotlight, ran geekbench, and system profiler and still saying 1 core

I guess could it be possible that it is the distro I am using? should i drop iAtkos v7 for the boot-132 method? assuming that I can get a hold of some leopard disks

could someone please quickly tell me what exactly the DSDT.aml does, im having some problems with it

From what I am understanding (I may be wrong) it is the configuration settings that allow your unix operating system (either linux or OS X) to talk to your hardware correctly.

What problems are you having with your DSDT?

im not sure if it is DSDT related, but i do have the patcher which has made the file for me, im just not sure if and how i should use it

ive made a thread about all the problems im facing here: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=180430

would be most grateful if you could help me anymore, thanks!

In another topic that I had made, I was told to do the following to fix my quad core issue, however I feel that the explanation is vague, and I really dont understand what 4 lines to delete at the top of the DSDT.dsl to fix this.

download DSDT_Patcher,

Run DSDT_Patcher in term. vi in term and delete four lines at top of file, aliases of CPU. Run DSDT_Patcher again on dsdt.dsl file like so

CODE

sudo ./DSDT_P* -f Debug/dsdt.dsl

sudo cp dsdt.aml /DSDT.aml
