hé Sam,

well unfortunatly the Jas version seems to be dead,

not may people sharing this version.

The version that i currently own is 10.4.6.

But its only 3.33 gig, people say this version works.

Would like to know if this is going to be as good as the jass version.

Cause i want to get the max out of tiger.

Hello Madcoaster!

I found this thread today, and i also have a SS3 Intel Pentium 4 3.2GHz. I have a 4.6 OSX version and i'm currently downloading the Jas version. If you are interested in getting one too, you are welcome to contact me.

If you make some progress with your install of OS X, don't forget to write in this thread. I am also very eager to get Mac working on my laptop : )

Oh btw, i think my Motherboard chipset is Intel Grantsdale i915P.

i have checked out the 3.33gig image, and many people report that it worked for them.

Alright

Now just download Daemon Tool and install it , so that u get an image loader for ur install dvd of mac 10.4.6.

Extract the rar file to obtain an image. This is the install image.

Here first we will try to install Mac OS X not on the physical partition, but in a file on any of ur existing Windows Partition.

Check whether u have an NTFS partition or not.

If yes then w'll move ahead in the install,

otherwise u'll have to make one.

Now Get VMWare. This software will help install OS, but will not wipe out ur Windows installation.

This VMWare can be used in both the ways to install mac os x.

Either in virtual mode(on a file and booting from windows installed, by creating a new virtual machine) or in

Native mode(on a physical partition, so that u can boot into mac os x, without getting into Windows OS) CAUTION:: USE THIS MODE ONLY IF U HAVE ANOTHER HARD DISK DRIVE OR YOU DONT WANT TO KEEP UR EXISTING WINDOWS INSTALLATION.

IN THE LATTER CASE, U'LL NEED TO BURN A DVD OF THE MAC OS INSTALLATION AND NEED A DVD DRIVE TO BOOT INTO FROM THE DISC.

ASSUMING THAT U DONT WANT TO INSTALL NATIVELY AND NOT ON THE PHYSICAL PARTITION VIA VMWARE.

1. CREATE A CUSTOM PROFILE FOR A NEW VMWare MACHINE.

By selecting FreeBSD as the Operating System to be installed.

2. Now it will ask u to provide a location for storing the file(OS image into). Specify a location having filesystem as NTFS and having space around 4gig to 6 gig.

3. next it will ask u to provide memory. IF u have 1024MB then use--> 512MB

if u have 512MB then use --> 256MB.

4. Then start this virtual machine. this machine at this very instant is empty and we will need to install the OS.

5. When the virtual system boots press Esc key. This will display u the menu to select the boot device. here select the CD-ROM.

6. Now the install will start.

7. Now open Disk Utility from the top menu bar from Utilities.

8. Now Erase the partition specified with the help of Hierarchical(Journalled) profile.

9. Now click ok and get back to setup.

10. As ur profile of processor states that u have an Intel SSE3 processor select the appropriate patches i.e. DO NOT select AMD patches and also Intel SSE2 patches as these might corrupt ur installation .Only select the patches pertaining to ur Intel SSE3 processor. Even do not select the VIA ATA hack for nForce.

11 As ur motherboard is 915, it will have graphics as GMA900, dont forget to select an option pertaining to this. (This hold the eye candy).

12 Now go ahead with the install.

13. After install is complete then reboot into the mac os and not get again into install mode.

NOTE: U will not see any kind of eye candy on, it might be slow.

U will not have enough space. Even most of ur hardware will not work properly as VMWare uses generic profile for hardware.

If u want to get the max of the Mac OS. u will need to install it natively.

this will give u most out of it .

If u have a separate HDD, i suggest u that u follow the VMWare mode of installing on physical partition by selecting the whole of physical disk.

Some dual booting thread for a install over a single Hard Disk exist, but im not too sure that where r they.

IF U Still have any problem then feel free to ask questions.

Bye

happy Install.

Well then, if i want to install Native, what do i do? I have a second harddrive.

Okay then, from here you have two options. There's the VMWare method and the native method. VMWare is really for if you don't have a DVD drive. I highly recommend the native method. If you're ready for the native all you have to do is put the install DVD in, boot off the DVD, and start the installer.

How about this? Does this really work, and if it does, why make such complicated guides and ways of installing?

Hé Sam,

thanks for the detailed explanation.

i'm going to give it a go tonight.

Can i assume that my motherboard is going to be ok, sinds you said that would unleach all the power of mac?

And when i'm going for the native way, do you think it will support my ATI videocard cause the powermacs work wit Nvidea.

I can't tell you enough how i appreciate your help!

@penan: The Guide is not too complicated.

if u examine it carefully it is a good one if u check whether ur sure to install which way i.e. either native or virtual.

@Madacoster: Thanks for appreciation.

I personnaly wished that such kind of guide should exist, for a newbie like u.

U did not mentioned that u had an ATI card. As of now the Graphics Card from only ATI are supported. The DVD installer that u got probably includes drivers for ATI graphics or u can find a detailed description of Catallysto in the Driver section.

Since, as of now nVidia cards r not supported by apple, currently its a no-go.

But u cant predict the future when it comes to Apple.

Im not sure that whether apple will ship its PowerMacs with nVidia card.

and those with PowerPC, its good not to include them as they r not supported.

And once again thanks for apprecialtion. My Pleasure.

I understand the guide, but you got me worried writing

"NOTE: U will not see any kind of eye candy on, it might be slow.

U will not have enough space. Even most of ur hardware will not work properly as VMWare uses generic profile for hardware."

That sounds like it's not a good way of installing then?

And you wrote Nvidia cards are not supported. A have a Nvidia card. Does this mean i need a earlier version than 10.4.6?

Hé,

no problem Sam,

im just glad to have someone who is willing to help me.

And your guide is very clear and easy.

Just the way i want to start out, later on i will go further trying to make

every thing work on my new mac. :-)

But i have to admit that i am still a little bit sceptical, if Tiger is going to run like it woul run on a native Macintoch and if i wil get the same performance.

I guess we shall see !

just one thing i don't seem to understand is :

7. Now open Disk Utility from the top menu bar from Utilities.

8. Now Erase the partition specified with the help of Hierarchical(Journalled) profile.

9. Now click ok and get back to setup.

nVidia r initially not targetted by their macs by apple.

Going to previous versions of Mac OS will not help a bit.

As i too have nVidia Graphics card, some work is underway by some developers.

u can find more information on MacVidia Project

Its safe to install via vmware natively, bcoz ull not need physical disc, nor a dvd drive, u r safe from DVD errors. Installation will proceed smoothly and fast and u can safely hit cancel in the disk check mode.

Above all ur sure that ull not mess up with install and not wipe off ur complete hard disk. As ur in windows.

Eye Candy for nVidia till date----> Full screen video only with real one player or QuickTime both Universal and only one window

I am confused >_>

Which is the best way to install, if i want the best performance, I have Intel Pentium 4 3.2GHz with Nvidia Geforce. And wich is the best version to use? Thanks.

If u have a second HDD, its a definite go for installing native on its first partition.

Make it around 20Gig, so that it provides u ample space for installing new softwares.

Right, and were do i find such a guide? And what do i need to do to get it work with my Nvidia Geforce card?

Here u go

Go to macvidia website

MacVidia - Official Forums & User Talk > Macvidia NVDriver General Discussion > MacVidia Driver Board

Follow the guide by coolbits

When u start install, some screen of text moves down and then u get into graphical mode of install.

this install will install mac on a partition that is native to it.

As Apple uses HFS+ file system, u should select a primary partition (in case of virtual install, select the HDD alocatiion on the left side). This step will create a partition for installing mac os x. This is just a partition manager of any other operating system.

In this case unless u create a partition to install mac os x, it will not show any to install, and then ull think what to do, hence follow the above step.

When u create & erase a partition click on the ---> red cross on the left at the top(sorry i forgot to mention instead of OK)

Hope this helps

Native is real simple.

1. Boot off DVD

2. Use disk utility to format your second hard drive

3. Run the installer

So this will work for my Intel Pentium 4 3.2GHz, 2 harddrive Nvidia Geforce computer? Just pop in the DVD and go? This sounds really weird considering it's something made by Apple. How do i get dual boot then, so i can choose OS when starting computer? And will it work when i have a Nvidia card?

a chain0 file that u'll need its hardly 1K it is present somewhere in the install DVD, u'll need to copy this file in c: drive of windows and that u'll need to add entry in ur boot.ini file as

C:\chain0="Mac OS X"

where C: is drive where you have copied the chain0 file.

hé sam,

what do you mean by; there on with callysto?

As my native language is not english, sometimes its confusion.

do you mean that its not fully operational yet ?

greets

madcoaser

Callisto is a driver suite for Radeon Graphic cards.

just checkout the driver thread in the osx86project forums.

Basically u'll be able to install Mac OS X without any drivers,

u'll can load them later. Since i dont have an ATI card, i cant tell u much about it.

Hope This helps
