Hello!

I'm going to built an i7 rig:

  • i7 920 CPU
  • 12GB RAM
  • GA-X58-UD5 (install guide - using CD132+Retail 10.5.6 & update to 10.5.7)

now when it comes to the graphic card I need:

  • quality card
  • EASY to install
  • 1GB ram.
  • for use with multiple screens
  • for professional editing in FCP.

I looked all over (HCLs insanely mac ets)

but I cant find 1 that will meet all the demands.

I need your advice thats the only thing that is keeping me from buying the hole rig.

Please state MODEL RAM BRAND etc...

and of course if you have a link to a simple walk-through.

Please share your success with me!

thanks!

I can suggest the NVidia 9800GT I have a 512, but it comes in 1GB versions too... Easy to install, put it in, connect a supplimentary (6 pin) power into the back for better performance and done....

quality, depends on manufacturer... gigabyte is good... changes the price...

Mine has a VGA, DVI with HDCP, and HDMI with audio (through spdif connector on mobo (optional)

Install is easy. If mac is installed, add a EFI string for it. If not, then install like any other machine, and add the string or use an injector. Its almost nativly recognised in 10.5.7

Thanks for your replay - when I mentioned "easy to install" I ment - easy to configure to run properly in 10.5.7 hackintosh.

As to the 9800GT 1GB - where can you find his EFI string?

I looked at the supported string list in the universal OSX86 installer: and its not on the list - how can I install this?

The 9800GT 1GB is not on the list.

So where can I find his EFI string?

BTW can you use all 3 ports in the same time?

I need to display to three monitors (2 in high res) so thats why I want 1GB card.

There is a custom string setting somewhere... I can dig it up a bit later.... You would need to enter the name, then the total ram then manufacturer, then it creates a .hex file which can be used by programs to insert the string. It also (if entered into the name fields) will give the correct info in the system profiler. I could make one for you if you needed!

9800gt is very easy -- just install nvidia series 9 drivers v2 and then install nvinject v52.pkg choosing 1024mb. Then qe/ci and all screen resolutions will work. on first bootup if it shows a black screen, backup/delete nvdaresman and later on just install resman again.

Thank you so much for both of you - I'm going to build 2 rigs (same Gigabyte X58-UD5 mobo) with diffrent GPUs

  • for my friend - 9800GTX 1024MB
  • FOR ME EVGA GeForce GTX 285 Superclocked Edition 2GB

So when I get the parts I'll try to do it myself if not - i'll ask you!

Cheers pips!
