Alright, so I've been trying to get iAtkos v7 installed on my modded HP Pavilion Elite m9040n:

Asus Berkeley IPIBL-LA Motherboard

nVidia GTX 260

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 CPU @ 2.4 ghz

On secondary HDD, second partition would be Leopard.

On primary HDD, first partition is Vista.

I've got the DVD running using the cpus=1 command, and most recently the -v verbose command, and everything seems to go without a hitch, until the install is done and it tries to restart. I'm faced with this screen, no animation on it, nothing. I've left it for plenty of time, and I'm confident nothing is happening. There is no HDD activity or CPU activity... I can boot into Windows fine still, but Leopard is always like this:

Now just for clarification, the screen above is completely different from the one below that you get when you're about to install.

This one has a circular animation in the lower third of the screen, and the apple logo is a solid color, etc.

I should also note that I didn't change my SATA controller to AHCI, I left it on IDE because whenever I turn it on AHCI I get a crapload more problems and have to use the Vista boot disk.

So basically I'm asking what's causing the first screen? Is it some of the customizations I chose? Should I try just doing a plain install without changing any customizations? Is it just a matter of finding the right combination of customizations?

Thanks in advance, any help is greatly appreciated.

It's getting stuck on something and you need to find out what it is. When get to the darwin bootloader hit F8 and the type -v at the boot prompt and the hit enter. This called booting in verboose mode. You will see a bunch of text start scolling and what ever is the last line is where the problem is. If you can post a screen shot.

Ok, here's the screenshot:

Now, because I see a Firewire error I should mention that I do have a Firewire header on my motherboard that's not occupied by anything because in my current, temporary configuration I was unable to fit it into its place. I don't know if that has anything to do with the error you see there (9 lines from the bottom), but I thought you should know just in case.

As for the last lines, I don't think those are a problem since I wouldn't be using any of those particular partitions for Leopard.

well i don`t know to much on this but i resently installed iatkos with mac os x leopard 10.5.7 and that type of problem i had you must reinstall your pc but before you press install go to customise and check settings that you might need because the normal install will install the basic things depending on the installer for example like: iatkos , JaS, Kalway. if you have an mesenger mesage me at giryboy1000@hotmail.com i wish that i help you

I'm fairly sure I have MBR on my Vista partition at least, I don't think I have an efi bios, so I couldn't have GPT if I understand correctly. But again, I'm so fuzzy on this whole thing it isn't even funny. I could be dead wrong, but there doesn't seem to be any wealth of knowledge on how to tell which you have.

EDIT: I went and manually scaled them down and re-upped instead of depending on the forum to do it.

Try installing using iPC. I had the same problem regardless of what patches were used which drivers were selected. iATKOS and iDeneb regardless of different options selected FAILED, finally got iPC to work.

Give it a try.

Why not unplug everything except for the essentials.

Yeah, I've heard some great things about iPC, so I'll give it a try, thanks. ;)

But, in the mean time, if anyone else has anything to add to what's already been said, as far as the errors and what not, that would be awesome too.

Thanks guys.

Alright, I tried iPC and still no luck, then someone on Hackint0sh made the suggestion for iAtkos to enable the 9.5.7 Voodo kernel, ACPI OSX86 Patch, and the ApplePS/2 Driver.

This magical combination of customizations almost works. Now I can get a spinning animation on the screen I was stuck on before that previously showed no animation.

With this new revelation, does anyone have any other ideas. Thanks very much guys.

You shouldn't have to use the Voodoo kernel at all since you have a C2Q6600. Leave the install as is and install the Chameleon RC2 bootloader. Just an idea. It wouldn't hurt either.

BTW why did you install the Apple PS/2 Driver? Are you using PS/2 keyboard or mouse? If so I would suggest going USB for both and eliminate that driver. Also are you trying to install on a laptop or desktop?

I know I don't need it, but I had decided to just follow this person's post to a T and see what happens, and when that animation actually showed up for the first time I just wanted to relay what setting I used to get it... I'll try a plain install and see what happens.

Also it's a desktop that I'm trying to install on.

Alright, I tried a plain-old, no-customizations installation, and no dice. I'm no longer getting the animation either. I won't be throwing in the towel on this yet, but this is quite possibly the most frustrating thing I've ever attempted to make my computer do.

There must be something about the Voodoo kernel and the ACPI patch that makes this thing work a little bit more.

As usual, if anyone has any other suggestions to make or golden nuggets of knowledge to throw in I'd be forever grateful.

You know it might be the chipset that's on that mobo. It's a G33. I haven't seen to many successful installs with that chipset. I tried to do an install for a friend and he had an HP with that same G33 chipset. Now I'm saying for sure, but maybe. You might want to do a search on this site for more info on that chipset.

Just a though,

Chevy

PS. You might want to read through THIS THREAD and some THIS ONE.

  • 3 weeks later...

I'm having basically the same problem. Installation is seemingly flawless. When the computer restarts, I get the Apple logo with the spinning lines. I don't get the circle with the line sign, just endless spinning lines. There is no hdd activity and when I run the -v flag, the information flashes quickly and the screen goes black. I'm also having a hard time entering anything longer than a few characters at the prompt because after a few quick seconds, the screen goes black.

I need some ideas and help please :)

PS - I have the retail cd and tried to follow the directions on this forum to use it; however, I have the same problem with the screen going blank. Before I can finish typing the line using the uui for the disc, the screen goes blank ;)

update: I've been able to catch the last line before the screen goes blank and it says AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement timed out
