OK so i have burnt my 10.4.6 onto dvd and i have pasted the boot line into boot.ini so it now looks like this:

[boot loader]

timeout=30

default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS

[operating systems]

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect

C:\chain0="Mac OS x86

However i am confused over the chain0 proceedure i found this link below from a link in the Wiki section

{removed garbage - it was breaking our RSS feed}

if this is chain0 then where does it go, do i copy it into word pad and save it as a text document?? If this is not chain0 then wheres the easiest place to obtain it, i have searched the web using google but still no joy? I also have OSX86 10.4.5 is it easier for me to install this instead of 10.4.6.

I get the option when booting up to choose xp or osx but it reads the dvd and then gives me a message about missing hal.dll....any ideas?

I downloaded a patched copy of OSX86 10.4.6. However i am new to susing torrents, and the application sais it was 75% done ywet when i checked the file location it gave me a file size of 4.38gb which is the size it should be when fully downloaded....confusing. Anyway like i said, i have changed the boot.ini file i have made sure it checks all boots paths using msconfig, my real concern is the chain0 code and whether or not i actually have the right one and that i am placing it in the correct location and in the right format....apart from that everything is ok, i have not managed to screw up my pc so thats a bonus.

Paul.

hi,

if you havnt installed os x already, install it, you dont need chain0 to boot of the dvd.

after installation:

get chain0 from here: http://www.badongo.com/file/678621

place chain0 in c drive

add this line to boot.ini file in windows C:\chain0="Mac OS x86"

should work

hope this helps.

I will give it a go although it looks like the proceedure i have already tried, any ideas about the

hal.dll error that i get when booting up, i get the option to choose between xp or osx then i get the error message. I created a partition on my hard drive of 15gb but since i am installing on a laptop i cannot make it primary, so i have set it to active.

And thats another problem right there, when i right click and go to properties it gives me the finished file size of 4.38gb and the same on the dvd when i check the file size. Anyway i have left all the downloads going (i am doing 10.4.4. , 10.4.5 and carrying on with 4.6). Still its all a enjoyable learning curve. Any ideas about how to partition the hard drive when using a laptop (a few of the installation guides mention having both drives as primary but you cannot do this on a laptop) since obviously i cant install i 2nd hard drive i partitioned my c:/ drive and made the new partition active. (am i asking too many questions).
